George, I think you are confusing what file you need to fix. It sounds from the description below that you are trying to change the read-only setting on the PAF program folder. It is supposed to be read-only, as you should not be able to directly modify the program files themselves. You need to be looking at your data file (something like "gildersleeve.paf"). The default location for that is probably in your My Documents folder. Reinstalling PAF is not going to solve the problem because the issue is almost certainly with your data file, and is a Windows problem not a PAF problem. If you cannot locate your data file you may need to find somebody who can get to your computer and do a hands-on fix. If you can locate the data file but are unable to change it, my offer still stands for you to email it to me and I will fix it. George, If you open your Family Search folder, then PAF then click on Data locate and highlight the file name you are having problems with ie 'JONES' then right click on that file, go down to Properties then uncheck the Read Only box, you will find that will work.
