Please help me. I want to send a GEDCOM of one branch of my ancestry to another person. First, I make a GEDCOM of that branch. Now, how do I find out what size flash/thumb drive I need to use to transfer the information? Another question: Under File Properties, there is Location: C:/Docume..........; Size: 7827456; and Modified: date shown. Is the size given in KB, MB or what? Is this the PAF software and the data I have put into PAF? At the bottom of the box is Free disk space: 1.00484 MB. What does this mean? Thanks Ruth
The size of your file is 7,727,456 bytes.. or 7.7 megabytes. The Free disk space is the amount of disk space .. on probably your hard disk.. which is not being used, which is 1,000,474 megabytes or slightly more than one gigabyte. I could go into what a byte is but won't you could put your data on a 3 and a half inch floppy disk which has a capacity of 1.44 megabytes. You may think these are just numbers, but when I was a youngster.. my first floppy drive had a capacity of 100,000 bytes! Just know what the file size is.. and what the FREE SPACE is.. the empty space remaining on your disc. You can think of a byte like the storage enough for a single character. Hope this old (computer) dinasaur was able to help!
