I was using it find the differences between two files the other day by using the SYNC function and had problems. I asked on another list and was referred to the tutorials on Ohana's website. After reading those I now have different problems. The original problem was -- file2 shows people not in file1 and I couldn't find a way to get them into file1. The tutorial appears to say it can't be done using PAFI, I'll have to hand enter those people later from PAF. If that's not true IYE, DO tell me how to do it. However, Problem 2 -- the tutorial also shows drop-down lists and buttons I didn't see while trying to solve problem1. Anyone know why that might happen? And, the tutorial also seems to be saying that any changes made won't appear in either database until I do an UPDATE before I close. I didn't do that, because it appeared that would cause me more work afterward. [As an example: the census copy in the notes of file1 said 1850 IL Mohawk Dry Prong etc etc In file2 it said 1850 IL Mohawk Dry Prong etc etc I did not see this as a critical difference and saying sync would have then put two copies of the 1850 reading into one set of NOTES, which would have meant I had to go into each one and delete one set of census.] Except -- I think it DID save those copynpastes I did ... The MORAL of the Tale Is -- NEVER have a copy of your database on your thumb; either erase the original or only work from the original. This whole thing started when I was schlepping a copy of the database on my thumb to use a source at the FHC. One evening, the power was off when I got home with it, stayed off until morning, and by the time we had cleaned up the mess, and recuperated and I had time to work on the family again, I had forgotten I hadn't copied the thumb. Found it when I was freeing up space on the thumb to do some transfers. Another instance of outsmarting oneself.
