    3. I have never worked out how to do Advanced Focus filter. Is there an easy explanation? 3. Marg, Like most things it gets easier with practice. For example, if you wanted to search for everyone in your database that was connected to Michigan, you could click Search > Advanced Focus Filter > Define > Any Place > > Full Place > Contains > Michigan > OK > Show Results Only > OK To search your Notes for all references to the word "census", you could click Search > Advanced Focus Filter > Define > Notes > > Contains > census > OK > Show Results Only > OK Using "Show Results Only" means that only individuals matching the filter set will be shown in the "Find Individual" screen, making it easy to examine them. You remove the check mark from "Show Results Only" in order to see everyone in the database instead of just the selected set. (You click Clear to clear the filter set. Never click Delete unless you want to permanently remove the selected records from your database.) If you have accidentally imported a gedcom file, one way to get rid of the new records is to select the range of new RINs and Delete these records, (after making a backup with a new name of course). This can be done with an advanced Focus Filter. So it is a powerful and somewhat dangerous tool. I find it very useful! 3. Marg: This is an article I wrote several years ago on some basic usage of the Advanced Filtering: http://www.ancquest.com/t_t6.htm This was written about the time we gave the code to the LDS Church for use in PAF -- so even though this article mentions Ancestral Quest, the Advanced Filtering works the same in PAF.
