While I don't go back to anything prior to PAF 2, I've used every version since then and never have I had a crash and loss of data. Ditto using the program PAF Insight. Most all of our patrons also use PAF and PAF Insight at the local family history center where I volunteer two days a week and, again, in 14 years I've yet to see a PAF crash and loss of data. Loss of data? Yes; but only because I or the person at the keyboard did something incorrectly. I'd like to read a step-by-step of what a user was doing when this happened. I sure agree with Beverly. I have been using PAF since it's inception and just love it. I don't know why people continually think they have to have all the "commercial" ones. And are you sure the Church is doing away with PAF? I don't think so. Then you should be thanking Almighty God, fasting. I've been using PAF since 2.0; in v 2.1, I was entering data in a published book, so we could update the information and republish it. Chapter 8 was HUGH (in fact, it was bigger than Chapters 1 thru 7 combined and if ONLY I had known that when I began the chapter). And 5 -- COUNT 'EM, 5 -- paragraphs from the end of Chapter 8 -- it froze the entire system. I had to do a COLD reboot. And upon reopening PAF, repeat from -- . I ended up retreating to the backup made at the end of Chapter 5 before I got a clean one that didn't freeze the system. Plod forward to 5 paragraphs to the end of Chapter 8 -- the system froze. Repeat from -- above. It took several attempts, with my frustration level rising geometrically with each, before I discovered that I could enter one family from the book, close PAF, play 1 hand of solitaire, reopen PAF, enter another family, close out,... This is *NOT* a fun way to enter several thousand names! And no, PAF support could only say "Never heard of such a thing."
