Fred, I think you need to take a look at the links in your pedigree. You may need to unlink some people from their present parents and link them to the right ones. I hope you have some backups that you made before importing the Royals, in case it becomes easier to use them.and then re-merge/re-link the royals to their correct spot. I see this as a PAF5 bug. I know have a 2nd example of the situation. 17,000 people in the file, 3,500 ancestors, this example: wife is a grandmother, parents are grandparents, child is a grandparent, but the person is not (Only according to the relationship display on the bottom of the page). It is the relationship display that is my problem.. I have checked (repeatedly all links, they are good) if I were a database guy, instead of just being a 40 year IBM sysprog mainframe guy, I'd find the problem, and fix it... Could it be that somewhere along the tree the person is a common ancestor to two people who married? If those two were of different generations (like a 5th cousin twice removed) I could see how that might screw up the relationship calculator. Fred, did you reset the relationship indicators after making the latest additions to the database. I get caught out on that sometimes. Go to Tools -> Preferences -> goto the File tab Here you see "Relationship indicators" click on the Change button A second pop up window will appear and it will show you the "Root Person" this is the person the relationship display is based upon. In case it is correct just hit "OK", if not click on "Search", on the next screen click on "Individual list", choose yourself or whomever you would like to have the relationship display based upon from the list of individuals, press "OK", on the next screen again press "OK". Then you will see that the program goes through the database and builds a list of relationships based upon the person you selected. This is only done when you go through this procedure, Note: any names that you add after doing this will not be in the list until you repeat the procedure again. Fred, The relationship indicator at the bottom of the screen needs to be reset as people are added. PAF recalculates these relationships when requested to do so, it isn't updated automatically. To do so: Tools > Preferences > File > Relationship Indicators > Change > OK > OK PAF will now show the relationships on the status bar. The Relationship Calculator is a different tool from the Relationship Indicator that I have been referring to.
