    3. I can see that if there was an extended period between the dates that it could indicate either a transposed number or other error in recording the dates, or a clue to some other issue, such as an autopsy, transport to a distant location, etc. And of course, some people may actually want to visit the sites, take photos of the tombstones, etc. The date could help the caretakers locate the grave. I don't spend time looking for the date, but if I have it why not record it? I don't see a value in deleting it after the fact. 3. Gary is right on with his comments on death and burial dates. If the places are materially different, it may indicate a clue to someone interested to know the why of the difference; travel for business or pleasure, change of location due to unknown migration, etc. This knowledge may help fill in the family history and where to start a search for location of descendants who's locations you haven't found.. As to cremation information. I have a father and mother-in-law who donated their bodies to science. The parts not used were cremated and returned to the family and grandson's scattered the ashes on a mountain here in Colorado. For future generations, this may be very important historical information. They can, proudly or not, know that their ancestor's ashes are there and if they climb that mountain, they know they walked in the ancestor's burial ground. May even want a picture. In date, I list the cremation date, if known, and list the name of the mountain. Then in the notes I write a brief explanation. In some cases, the family may have a family cemetery plot, where they place a memorial stone. I that case, I list date of cremation and location of the memorial stone. Then add a note that explains this and lists the place the ashes were scattered. None of this may be important to other researchers, but may be very important to descendants for closure of family history and knowing how the immediate family cared for the remains, or the individual wanted their remains taken care of. In my case, I've asked for my body to be donated for organ transplants, other parts used for medical research, and any remains after that to be cremated, with the ashes buried in a cremation size plot at a local National Cemetery. That burial lets them know that I served my country proudly and was entitle to a military burial. The can visit the site if they want to, or not, but know where my mortal remains lay. These are personal reasons why I record this information. It may be valuable to some, or ignored if one doesn't think it will serve a useful purpose to descendants.
