FamilyInsight is the safest option for correcting problems with notes. When loading your file it automatically detects problems like the one you are experiencing. It will give you a report with the details in a more human readable form than PAF provides. Any corrective action it takes is listed in that report so you can verify that the problem was fixed correctly. There are cases where it is impossible for the software to tell which fix is correct, so having an understandable report is critical.
