Sometimes, when I need to check my typing (old eyes :-(), I open the file in PAF, then open the same file in another program and use ALT+TAB to switch between them. Having 2 copies open at once means that you can edit while displaying your information in the background file. My background favorites are Ancestral Quest or PAFWhiz 2 because they have a "Read-Only" mode that makes changes as I change the PAF database. Currently I am checking information for a GEDCOM file for export. I go to the same person in both files and check my marriage notes by going to AQ or PAFWhiz and clicking on the Individual tab to see all the information for that person. My GEDCOM will not contain confidential information, to check this I go to AQ or PAFWhiz click on MENU -> File -> Reports and Charts, select "Individual summary", fill in the check boxes as I wish (leaving Conf. Notes etc. unchecked) and click on Preview to display my output. Sadly this view doesn't include Marriage Notes - that's why the first step is necessary. AQ or PAFWhiz also have ways to check sources: MENU -> Edit -> Source List, select a source and click on Citations to display the RIN and name for each citation, then I use PAF to make my edits. Hope this helps. Elizabeth Warwick
Elizabeth, I sometimes view two files in PAF so that I can compare them. (The second file needs to be opened using File menu > Open.) Then I click Windows > Tile vertically. From the Family view you can easily read the Marriage notes from both files. If one file is made Read-only it prevents updating the wrong one. -- Bill Buchanan website: http://billbuchanan.byethost17.com blog: http://billbuchanan.blogspot.com On Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 4:08 AM, Stan & Elizabeth Warwick < ewarwick@pei.sympatico.ca> wrote: > Sometimes, when I need to check my typing (old eyes :-(), I open the > file in PAF, then open the same file in another program and use > ALT+TAB to switch between them.
