    3. Hello Nivard, Yes. First you open your database in PAF. Then, under Tools you select Ancestral Quest. That opens the same database in AQ. You make whatever changes or additions you wish to make within AQ, then you close AQ. Closing AQ brings up the same database (with your new changes) in PAF. You will actually see PAF on the quick launch bar at the bottom -- it appears to still be open. However you cannot return to PAF until you close AQ. If you click on the link to PAF at the bottom, it opens PAF with an empty data screen. Changing data in this manner within PAF but using AQ for the changes does not change the format of the database from a PAF file. There are options within AQ to save the data in AQ format, but once you do that you cannot reopen it in PAF without using a gedcom file. I hope this is helpful. I've no idea if AQbasic will open a PAF file since I have the paid version of AQ. You can certainly download AQ Basic, load it onto your computer, and then open your PAF file to see if AQ is an option from within PAF. 2. Ellen, You said that very well. One thing though. In your paragrapph two you said you have to use a GEDCOM file to go from an AQ file back to a PAF file. I don't think that is correct. Click on file and then click on file converter. That will let you convert the AQ file to a PAF file without using a GEDCOM. If you want the new PAF file to be separate from your original PAF file give it a different name. I'm like you and use a purchased copy of AQ so there may be some differences in the free basic version. Thus my census itations are not chronological. 3. Hi Ellen Many thanks for your reply I have tried the basic AQ and apart from looking a little more modern it does not appear to add much to PAF A couple of the extras I was interested in were the research log side, ie Research Manager & the to do list Do you use that and is it usable ? There is mention of an "individual" screen (a tab in the main view page), but on checking that it shows its only part of the paid version, I have watched the tutorial video and don't see mention of it , is it any different to the usual individuals edit screen? I just wondered why the tab doesn't work unless its different in some way? There are one or two interesting things with AQ so am debating if its worth the paid the version or not Any other good things you find with AQ not available in PAF ?
