Allow me to put my 2 cents worth in, on this subject. Have been using AQ for many years, but not as long as I have used PAF, nearly 25 years. My 9 different databases for my ONS (One Name Study), one for most geographical areas of the world, are in PAF5 and all data, over 100,000 records, is stored in PAF5. Use AQ for some specific functions, the most important is to sort one of the databases when looking for a specific person, ie. Charles Cotton of a specific area, a specific time frame and who was mar to a specific person. Since there are many Cottons with the given name of Charles, maybe over 1000, it is very hard to find him using PAF. When I was forced to start using Windows Vista and later Windows 7, someone warned me to modify Windows by using the Wizard feature that comes with it. PAF5 then worked very well and still does. I also use Roots Magic but only to create large or small Wall charts, up to 20 ft long, and it also works very well on Windows 7. In such cases the data is imported from PAF5 data using a GEDCOM file. Recently decided to try out an IMac to see if my PAF5 program would work on it. It does, but one needs to also install Windows 7 with the Wizard, and have not yet found any problems, though it is new to me. I certainly don't intend to leave PAF5 and therefore have downloaded the ENG File off the Internet, saving it in condensed format on a Flash Drive for future use, in case the LDS removes it from their WebSite. I'm dedicated to AQ, Roost Magic and PAF5 as each has its use. It is likely that for the foreseeable future we will be able to run PAF 5 on any later versions of Windows. Even if some Windows version does not run PAF directly, if you save your XP, Vista or W7 installation disks you can install that using a virtual machine.
