But today when viewing my gt grandparents and gt gt grandparents in the family charts, I saw that some of the information was misplaced---such as placing the children under the names of their grandparents as well as their parents, and my gt. grandmother was also in the place where my gt gt grandmother should be. > > There may be other names that are misplaced also. I would appreciate your suggestion as to how I would correct this. I’m thinking that if I try to correct it all manually, it might really mess things up. I almost downloaded the software again, but wasn’t sure how to check the three options—Modify, Repair or Remove components. > > Thank you very much. > > Joanne C Sounds as if you bought the 64-bit system. We stayed far-far-away from that when we got our Win7 machine. Anyway -- did you GEDCOM your file into the new version, or did you simply copy the old file onto your new computer? If it was the 2nd one, and you've still got your old computer, try the GEDCOM route first. You may very well have to fix things manually, though. I've had good luck finding errors and duplicates by printing the book of Descendants, starting as far back the pedigree as I can go and including the lineage on each entry. Print it to file, let it open in whatever, and eyeball it for duplicates or out-of-place entries (such as two marriages to the same woman on the same date). If you've got a large file, this may not be worth the effort. I sure hope someone else has a better idea! Cheryl
I bought a H-P 64 bit system, too dumb to know any different. I downloaded PAF-5 with no trouble. I keep all of my family files (20-25) in one folder called PAF-Families which also has a sub-folder for my pictures. This works great and I copy the big folder to a thumb drive to use when I go to print on my old XP machine. No GEDCOMs required. Don
