    1. [PAF-5] Fonts for Books
    2. maureenoc
    3. I haven’t had an occasion to print an ahnentafel chart and report book in my PAF5.2 for years. However recently I find I want to do this and am having the following problem. I put in the relevant information, tick Print To File so as I can turn it into an rtf file and then Preview. When viewing the Preview Notes and the resultant rtf file I find on some of the notes pages at the top a letter missing. For example: “they live at so and so” comes out as “hey live at so and so” . I have played around with fonts and sizing but I am still getting the same result. Can anyone please suggest something I can do to rectify this problem.. Many thanks. Maureen

    3. Ross...I noticed in last month's mailing list you said you used Rootsmagic for an excellent large wall chart. I use PAF5.2, Companion and PAFWiz2 and am thinking of purchasing Ancestral Quest 12.1 just for an add on for when the nFS becomes available, but still primarily working with PAF5.2 I would like to ask is there any complications with just using the Rootsmagic for the large charts only. Regards. Maureen

    3. Thank you for your enquiry. That is exactly what I do. When I want a large wall chart I create a GEDCOM file from my PAF5 and import it into Roots Magic and then create the chart with those records I want to include. It is very flexible and one, after trial and error, can use the event fields wanted in boxes or not, can use different colours or size for different lineage. If you want to include Maternal lineage one can create both and Merge them into one chart. You can then create a file in .pdf format or other, so that you can have your local Print shop, make the copies. I have done some up to 20 ft long. If you have trouble getting a local Print shop to print it. RootsMagic will use the file you create and make a print out and mail it to you. PAF Companion version 5.2 fixed a problem introduced by Windows Vista. I believe that version 5.4 made the program compatible with Windows 7 (64-bit). The newer versions can print charts in color. I am not sure whether 5.1.5 had color capability. Version 5.4 requires more memory than many XP machines have available. So if you have 5.1.5, it should run great on your WindowsXP. -- Bill Buchanan website: http://billbuchanan.byethost17.com blog: http://billbuchanan.blogspot.com

    3. It would normally depend whether the tablet was running Microsoft Windows or not. (The software that can be run depends on the operating system.) 1. Re: [PAF-5] Problem uninstalling PAF Companion
    2. Bill Buchanan
    3. Betsy, To finish uninstalling/removing PAF Companion you WILL need to manually delete the PCOMP5 folder. Whether the new version accepts your unlock code depends which version of PAF Companion you registered. If it was prior to version 5.2 it will probably not work, and you will need to buy a new unlock code. But give the old one a try. If you have a copy of the installer you used in 2004, you can install it again and it will work with your unlock code. Bill Buchanan On Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 10:41 AM, B.H. 3. After uninstalling Companion 5.1.5,  I went to the Family Search website to download for reinstall and noticed there is a 5.4 version upgrade. I downloaded it and it is just the Basic version, I typed in my Pin and it does not work....... Does that mean I have to buy it Again?? Betsy Hare Kemp

    3. My Companion had problems, so as per the posts here I uninstalled it. XPHome. It gave me the choice to leave the printer options, so I left them as I don't know what other programs use them (if any) At the end of the uninstall received message " some elements could not be removed"; details: "unable to delete folder C:\Pcomp5" and they suggested manually deleting it (?) Also, I still have my pin # from 2004, shall I presume it will still work? Help appreciated Betsy Hare Kemp .

    3. Hi Carol You seem to be of the opinion that all PAF software will melt down as in special agent films <g> I for one and I suspect many others will continue to use PAF, regardless of any support from the LDS If it ain't broke, don't fix it I say :-) Therefore I see no reason why the list would cease to exist Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I want to thank all for your answers to my questions on "May I ask?" 3. Carol, I can't speak for the moderator, but I expect this list to remain in place as long as postings continue. And I expect that those of us who use PAF will continue to use this forum. There is also a PAF forum on http://genforum.genealogy.com/paf/ I expect it will continue also. I expect that FamilySearch <file://familysearch/> support will also be available for PAF. I don't think you need to worry about being left without support.
