Donna, It is possible to convert PDF to Word, but the results are seldom perfect. One place you might try is the free site www.zamzar.com This might be the best choice. If you don't like the results, see if any of your friends use Word97. Donna, Change your default printer to PDF Creator before generating the book, then change your default printer back to your HP Printer. Dear Listers....Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I can rectify the following problem. I haven’t had an occasion to print an ahnentafel chart and report book in my PAF 5.2 for years. However recently I find I want to do this and am having the following problem. I put in the relevant information, tick Print To File so as I can turn it into an rtf file and then Preview. When viewing the Preview Notes and the resultant rtf file I find on some of the notes pages on the first line at the top a letter missing. For example: “they live at so and so” comes out as “hey live at so and so” . I have played around with fonts and sizing but I am still getting the same result. Can anyone please suggest something I can do to rectify this problem.. Many thanks. Maureen
Donna, I have no problem doing this but then I use Word97, which was the version of Word that was current when the Windows version of PAF was created. A friend with a recent version of MS Office got so frustrated with his computer that he brought a copy of his PAF database and photos to my house, where the job was quickly accomplished. If you bring your data and photos to a FHC or a friend's house you may have more success. Hmm... I thought maybe associating .RTF files with the free OpenOffice would cause the book to open in that word processor, but it still opened in Word97. Then I tried my brand new laptop, that has OpenOffice instead of MS Office97. The Preview loked fine, but the RTF version was missing the photos. So I changed the default printer to one of the free PDF writers ("PDF Creator"), and removed the checkmark from "Print to File", and had a perfect result! So I suggest that you install PDF Creator and set it as your default printer, and print to it. See if that will give the results you need. Bill, I cannot do this because I need to edit my Anfantel Book it has 198 pages and I need it to open so I can view and edit. (Print to File) Is there a way around this. PAF-5-USERS-L@rootsweb.com You may have tried working on your own before but you haven't tried this http://bit.ly/f9dohz this has been the best year of my life for more information on how to do this click here please don't worry you can be successful this too for the sake of your coffers don't pass this up
I agree that Rootsweb's WorldConnect is extremely helpful. It has found lots of connections for me. That is not the same as Ancestry, where documentation, pictures etc. can be added to one's tree. The uploads to Rootsweb transfer automatically Ancestry, however.
