Donna, Whether I specify Right or Left for the photos they print on the Left side, outside the text margins but within the page. I tried the same thing using AncestralQuest, basically the same as PAF, but my wife's photo was missing for some reason. PAF Companion does not seem to be able to print books, just charts. I tried the free version of RootsMagic4. It can import a PAF file directly (no need for gedcom) but it would not allow me to save the report, just to print it. It didn't seem as flexible as PAF in generating reports, but it may be my lack of familiarity with the software. OK, PAF 2 and I think 3 allowed me to do a temporary reconfiguration. That's not available in 5. *IF* I uninstall PAF5 and then reinstall it, can I achieve the same thing? Specifically, I want to eliminate *all* the blank lines in a book narrative; I suspect many of them are put in by the line-end/carriage return chr$ which can be specified in the config. Yes? No? Yes but a really bad idea? Cheryl
When you're in WORD97 with the book open, right-click one of the photos and select PROPERTIES. Resize from there; it may even let you reformat from there. But, always remember, rtf documents do not always give the best formatting results because they are not tied to any specific program for reading. You may have to save-as a .doc file to get what you want. Cheryl, I don't know whether it is possible in that way, but you should be able to do a global search and replace in your word processor to accomplish the same thing in the RTF file. e.g. in Word97, Find:^p^p Replace with:^p Replace All Bill Buchanan On Sun, Mar 27, 2011 at 10:54 AM, singhals <singhals@erols.com> wrote: > OK, PAF 2 and I think 3 allowed me to do a temporary > reconfiguration. > > That's not available in 5. > > *IF* I uninstall PAF5 and then reinstall it, can I achieve > the same thing? > > Specifically, I want to eliminate *all* the blank lines in a > book narrative; I suspect many of them are put in by the > line-end/carriage return chr$ which can be specified in the > config. > > Yes? I am not happy way PAF5.2 is performing in printing my Book into WORD97. PAF5 only give me two options to place the photo Right or Left. (Above, Center, Below is Grayed Out). when I choose right the photo shows up out side the left margin in Word97. There must be a better program to do this in. I could print directly from PAF but I need to edit. Advice and Suggestions. I do not like the rtf format.
Aloha All, I clicked on the properties tab in the File folder and have a question. I understand the Individuals and Marriages in the list of items that it dispalays. But the items I don't understand are Sources, Citations, Repositories, Notes, Events and Media Items. What are these things? These are followed by number Record Count. My question is the numbers they show for these items do not seem correct to me, is this something I should be concered about? For example it has I have 644 Sources, now I have a lot but not 644. The repositories line it says I have 14 when I look at the list it only has 11. Are these accurate? Thanks Earl

To Gtempleman, Bill, Cheryl and all. I uninstalled Word2003 and installed Word97 in order to be able to get my photos on my Ahnentafel Book. The photos came out OK BUT they were not in the proper placement as per view in PAF5.2 Preview. They were off to the left side and very tiny. I can move them and resize them but that's not the way they should be. It seems like they should look like what PAF5.2 shows in the preview. Suggestions and Advice. Donna, have you tried Cheryl's suggestion to see if the problem actually exists in the printed result? Don't print all 198 pages, but test a few. Also see if changing the margin width makes a difference. Finally, see if changing to a different view (normal, layout, ect) has any effect. If you already have a later version of Word installed, then installing 97 at the same time could create problems with the existing version. If you want to try 97, uninstall the current, reboot, then install. Donna, Do you have an old computer you could install it on? I don't like the idea of messing with an existing install of MS Office.
