Thanks for your input Ellen There seems to be a few things it may be useful for but a pity you have to buy it to find out if they are :-( You say you open your data in AQ several times a week? Do you use the one database and open it in both PAF & AQ ? I am assuming any changes made in AQ would show in PAF and vice versa ? Future versions of Windows are not expected to support PAF, or at least that's what the warnings seem to be. Getting back to our conversation about the strengths of AQ -- I like it because my sources in PAF have been entered in the order I have discovered them. Thus my census citations are not chronological. AQ allows you to reorganize the order of your citations so that they are in a logical and chronological order -- census citations by date, obituaries at the end of the list, etc. This alone encouraged me to purchase AQ 2 years ago. I still use both, simply because I'm used to entering data via PAF 5.2. I open my database in AQ several times a week and organize my citations. I will probably eventually switch to using AQ exclusively once I'm completely at ease with it! Ellen

Hi Fred As I said it could well be a false warning however with great respect I prefer to trust my anti virus and firewall to yours Particularly as you use Norton as I would not have it as a gift with ribbons on Each to our own eh <g> I should also say that I have not had this warning from *any* other site Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi all, I'm using Norton (the latest) and it only shows it has not been > tested yet. That is quite possible but I take no chances I use Avast with Comodo I binned AVG after having several problems with it Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Donna, > > I just clicked the link and my security software had no problems. The LDS has announced that they are not going to continue updating or supporting PAF, which seems to me to be the only reason to change as I'm very satisfied with what it does. When I get settled after a move I'm going to buy AQ and get used to it before I have to convert to a new Windows version that won't handle PAF. Hi Donna I tried to have a look at your web site but get a "Reported Attack Page" Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :-( Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard, > I have my basic Genealogy on PAF5.2 but also run AQ11 as it lets me convert > my PAF5.2 files into AQ and then I like to make my Web Site off AQ11 as it > is better than PAF5.2. Hi again A quick follow up I downloaded it and opened an old back up in it (it did not give a convert option as far as I could see?) Anyway it opened and all looked fairly familiar As far as I can tell the extra bits I was interested in are only in the paid version so the basic is largely useless I don't think I will be paying out for something I don't know will help me Thanks for the help though, appreciated Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > Hi Nivard, > While I won't try to answer all of your questions I can set your mind at ease about your PAF data > file. Hi Donna I haven't used it until now I have just tried it and although it looks interesting it seems largely the same as PAF The extra bits I was more interested in you appear to only get in the full paid version, its a pity they don't do a timed version for say 30 days to evaluate it I do not see me shelling out for something I don't know is going to be useful Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Nivard, what Version of Ancestral Quest do you use? Thank you for your reply Lynn much appreciated I do not use temple codes so thats not a problem I have already tried Legacy and the Roots Magic (and just about every other family tree software at some time or another) I used GSP Family tree for several years and then tried PAF a few years back and liked it better as there were better (but not over fancy) facilities PAF had more going for it than GSP as I don't think GSP even had a sources field then, the only one thing I missed was a drop down chart but most things I am happy with PAF Over time I road tested most of the family tree softwares and frankly found them either garish, over complex or just simply didn't like them so have remained with PAF I had hoped the answer would be as you have stated so will I think give it a try at least I feel sure I tried Gencharts as well but didn't find a good use for it but maybe it was a different program, I can't recall Thanks again for the information, appreciated Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Nivard, > While I won't try to answer all of your questions I can set your mind at ease about your PAF data > file. Hi again, a reported attack page, means someone, sometime reported the page as a problem, and your AV accessed that record, not that your or my antivirus FOUND a problem..The only people who will get that message, is the folks using that AV. In the normal course of events, almost every page on the web gets reported for something..I admin dozens of sites, and more than dozens of email lists and boards..I spend a lot of time trying to keep those servers off blacklists because someone reported them (Rootsweb/Ancestry/Genweb) as S P A M M E R S. The big problem is anti s p a m sites keeping those bad reports around too long. It often takes days or weeks to get a site cleared after the critical number of reports are met. If my software had reported a problem, I would have emailed them asking for the report..If I owned the site, I would have had Norton review the site and tell me if it was ok, and if it was, verify and record it. (Which I just had it do with my main genealogy site). But then, that's what IBM sysprogs are expected to do... Regards, Fred

Worked for me. I'm using AVG. The old one we had often wouldn't let me onto my own webpages, so we deep-sixed it. Hi all, I'm using Norton (the latest) and it only shows it has not been tested yet. Your AV by not seeing the html, or metatag that sez it's ok, makes me think you are likely getting false positives..
