    3. when a tab is grayed out it means that the individual/marriage has a tag but that the tag is not in the configured master list of tags. if you click on the all tags note then you will be able to see all of the notes and perhaps change the tag for this one note. another option would be to add the tag to the master list of notes. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nobia" <nobia@centurytel.net> To: <PAF-5-USERS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 20, 2005 11:31 AM Subject: [PAF-5] Note Selector Screen >I use the note selector screen. PAF Insight works like a "plug-in" to PAF to give you the ability to do several highly useful tasks. When you install Insight, it adds itself to the Tools menu. When you select the PAF Insight menu choice, it pulls your PAF database into its work area and offers the following features: - Search IGI (A high speed, power searching of the IGI with ranking of search results and the option to merge unique data fields) - Compare and Synch two PAF databases (Identifying differences between two databases and merging of the unique data fields) - Match/Merge (Similar to Match/Merge in PAF except it highlights the differences) - Edit RINs and Pedigrees (Allows you to swap RINs between people and to identify disconnected pedigrees.) - Repair & Compact (A more comprehensive repair routine and a means to eliminate unused RINs to reduce space used by unused RINs) All changes to your database made using PAF Insight are queued up in the Insight work area and then applied to your database when you exit Insight provided you click OK. 3. Dear List, Your answers to my request regarding backups have been very helpful. I didn't know there were such things as memory sticks. My family has read your answers too. But my son says he had the misfortune to lose his memory stick with several hours of work on it. He thinks it fell out of his computer case going through airport security. For my small database I will probably stick to floppies, but add the date each time. Before I had just added the date to the label. Occasionally I will do a CD-RW as an added backup. Well, now you know what to give for a Christmas present! >>>>> Bad W98 requires drivers to be loaded for the jump drive - newer OS's do not have to have any drivers loaded. I don't know that I'd call this "bad", just inconvenient. I've downloaded drivers both at home and at the FHC (still on Windows 98) and it only takes a minute. It would be nice if the industry had a package of drivers so that we didn't have to download for each kind of flash drive, but then there really aren't that many, so it's still just an issue of convenience. 1. RE: [PAF-5] What is a Flash Drive/
    2. All; For aver a year I have been using two Flash Memory plug ins on the USB ports on the front of my computer. I have had no trouble. I liked this arrangement so well that I purchased a 200 Gig external hard drive to use as a full system backup. This works well so far (complete backup = 3 1/2 hours and I have not yet figured how to make it backup only the new files). Today the first problem reared its ugly head. A friend came by ready to do check against the IIGI in preparation for submitting for temple work. His USB Flash Memory would not read on either of the two ports on the front of my computer. It did read on one of the ports at the rear. This suggests to me that there may be a problem with the connectors. It was mentioned that there may be a problem with the "cute, curvy" USB flash memory sticks. I have one of those. I cannot plug it into the port when there is anything plugged into the adjacent port. I have a flat USB flash memory stick (Kingston). It does not have the interference problem. Richard L. Halliday (once again having trouble with my e-mail because of Microsoft)

    3. And here is another place to check: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form I keep both this and the RootsWeb locator icons (links) on my Task Bar, and always go first to RootsWeb and check all the places. I once found a city with the same name in 3 different places in the same state - REALLY confusing! I checked GNIS for Era, Pennsylvania. It brought up Eravel, Clinton, PA. I have unchecked "Source notes" and "General notes", but on the web-pages is shown numbers at every person linking to those non-existent source-pages. 3. How do you find out what speed your USB hub is? The only way I know is to plug a USB 2 device into it and see if you get a warning on the screen saying that you have plugged a USD 2 device into a USB 1 port. It is only a warning to let you know that the USB device will run slower than expected. Since they look the same physically, and they don't seem to be identified differently in the device table, I don't know any other way. I am in the process of buying 1,000 little 4 port USB 1 hubs for my company to give away at trade shows, and nowhere on the devices does it indicate that it is a USB 1 hub. I suspect, however that if they were USB 2 hubs, it would be marked as such. If you have a desktop machine, you can purchase a USB 2 interface card and install it in your machine so that you will not have to buy a whole new machine. These cards cost about $40.
