    3. If you have not imported the GEDCOM, the replace function in Wordpad or Notepad works great. If you already have imported the GEDOM, go to Tools, Global Search and Replace, and select Full Name from the pull down option list. If there's >lots< of variation on the spelling, you'll need to do each one. BE SURE to do a backup before doing any Global Search and Replace - one slip can cause very unexpected and unwanted results. 1. Unlinking
    2. Hi Listers New to your list but not other mailing lists. I use 5.0 but I have a little problem. I have recently found out that a 3rd gt grandmother is not hooked to the right father. I had her brother as her father but she is in fact a sister to him. His parents are her parents too. I did a match merge for the daughter and aunt same name same birthdate ... which came thru good and I unlinked him as her father. But it still shows her brother as my 3rd gt grandfather and she is still my 3rd gt aunt, unless I bring her up as a mother and then she is my 3rd gt grandmother. Very confusing .. How can I change that so that he shows as a 3rd gt uncle? 1. reorganize sequence of citations?
    2. Is there a way to reorganize the sequence of citations, so that e.g., citation of 1910 (citation 3) census appears between 1900 (citation 1) and 1920 (citation 2), even though 1910 was entered later? Drag and drop would be nice.

    3. Hi Georgina, It is assumed that you reran the relationship indicators in the Tools>Preferences>Files> menu. Those relationships are not automatically updated when you make changes to your database. Based on what you have indicated, you have two problems: one with the ancestral line from your 3rd gt grandmother and 3rd gt aunt, and problem with a descendent line from them. What makes the brother your 3rd gt grandfather is not who his parents are, but how you are descended from him. It seems to me that you are a direct descendent of the brother, not the sister. If in fact you are really a direct descendent of the sister, you need to fix whatever problem you have that has the sister not listed as the mother of your 2nd gt grandmother. I suspect it has something to do with the database maintenance that gets messed up once in awhile. Alan B.

    1. Re: [PAF-5] reorganize sequence of citations?
    2. Richard Rands
    3. As far as I know there is no drag and drop feature for citations, but you can use the memorize and paste feature. For example, if you have two citations and you wish to reverse their order, select the first citations and click on the memorize button. Then delete the citation. That will leave the second citation as the first and only citation. Then click on the New button and when the Source List screen appears, click on the Use Memorized Citation button. The memorized citation will now become the second citation. The only problem with this technique is that if there are more than two citations, you will have to do some careful memorize, delete, and paste steps to get the final sequence you wish. Just remember that you can only paste to the end of the list. So suppose you have citations A, B, C and you would like to end up with B, A, C. The quickest way to do this is to memorize, delete and paste A which will give you B, C, A. Then memorize, delete and paste C which will give you B, A, C. 3. Open to the Individual Screen view, place cursor anywhere on the column title bar and right click. From the drop-down click on Add or Modify Columns and make certain the items you want to see have been moved from the left pane to the right pane. Had a patron yesterday with the same problem you describe and somehow name, rin #, etc. had not been placed in the right pane. Don't know how or why this happens, but this is a quick fix. 2. It depends.... IF the mispelled name is the only time that name if found in your database, you can do a global search and replace. 3. You can open that Gedcom in WordPad and use find and replace on the last name. Be sure to set the options in WordPad to not use WordWrap. Also, when you do the find and replace be sure to check the "Match whole word only" checkbox. 3. Open the gedcom in a word processor that has a search/replace function (after all -- a gedcom is nothing but a specially formatted text file). Search for and replace the wrong spelling, then save as a text file with the extension of .ged. You may have to play around with this -- some word processors will automatically add a .txt as the extension and you may have to rename the file. FYI -- Wordpad, which has been in every versioon of Windows has a search/replace function, and it does not seem to replace the extension in my simple little test.
