I use PAF on a Palm (Handspring) PDA. Ask for "palm" in the PAF built-in help file. Is there a Susan Shira on this list? If so, please contact me - off list. I saw an e-mail from you but forgot to uncheck the delete button on my mail-washer and so it was gone before I could read the message. Sorry. Beverly -- Mailto:kngsldy@cableone.net Families are Forever!
Sometime ago I put a note on this mailing list about PDAs. I know that PAF has a file for a Palm PDA; however, I was not able to find a way to use PAF or any other kind of a file on a PDA . I am not an expert on computers, however, I do know a small amount about them. Do I download PAF 5 directly to the PDA and then open it. My question is how do you get a PAF file on a Microsoft PDA?
PAF on your regular PC can export a database so it can downloaded to a PDA(palm styled). And there is a PAF Reader availble for free that you can load on your PDA(palm styles) to read it. PAF does not run on a palm OS PDA but could maybe run on a WIndows PDA. We have Paf 5.2 with 3 family files; recently we purchased the Paf Companion & have the 3 lines there. Suddenly we notice another family (Farren) file which has no connection to us - where has it come from? Have been trying to delete the file but all I've succeeded in doing is getting Farren family twice on the Paf5 and 3 times on the Companion. Before I really mess up my files completely can some one tell me how to delete this family? Any help would be appreciated. The Farren file is just a sample file that comes with Companion. It is not actually getting into PAF. Data files are separate entities from the program and it does no harm leaving it. However, to delete it just go to the folder where it resides, highlight it and delete it. If you do not know where it is you can search for it in Windows Explorer, or start PAF and go to File_Delete and then delete that file. If it has ever been opened in PAF, it may still show up in the PAF list of recently used files even after deleting but that is of no consequence. The name will drop off the list as you use other files. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean Harris To: PAF-5-USERS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 7:32 PM Subject: [PAF-5] PAF5.2 & PAF Companion We have Paf 5.2 with 3 family files; recently we purchased the Paf Companion & have the 3 lines there. Many thanks to Bill Linn, C. Forrest, Will Merritt, John Waugh, and Cheryl for their suggestions. It's amazing that there could be so many solutions to one challenge ... I have implemented the quickest one for me, and it works! Am keeping all replies on file for possible future use. :-) G R A C E in Georgia, USA
Hi Donna, In case you have not received an answer to this question, it does not appear that this is possible. The problem is that the two windows that list the lineage in the relationship are scrollable, so there would have to be a special print routine to expand that space. Your request is a great idea, and would not be hard to do, but even a screen capture program would not be able to expand the scrollable boxes. I'll ponder the question a bit and maybe something clever will pop into mind. Regarding printing in draft (or black-only, full color, etc.) It is definitely possible to install multiple physical printers to any PC and in Windows. In my experience, it is also possible to install multiple "virtual" printers, even though one has only the single physical printer actually attached. In any multiple printer configuration, whether several actual physical printers, or several "virtual" printers, one printer will always be designated the "default" printer by Windows, i.e., it will be automatically chosen by Windows unless you make a choice during the printing process to use a different printer. The beauty of this is that once you have the "printers" installed within Windows, you would go to the Control Panel/Printers/Printing Preferences, and from there, make all your configuration settings for each printer, i.e., one installation could be permanently set to "Draft", another to "Full Color", another "Black Only", and if you give each printer a corresponding name differentiation indicating to yourself which configuration that printer has, later on when printing anything, you simply choose which printer is appropriate at that moment and no adjusting is necessary, and you don't have to go back and undo any changes after printing, etc. etc. I have done this many times for folks who have Photo printers for instance, but still use them mostly for regular document printing, and by setting the default printer as Draft or Black Only, you can print web pages, and not waste your color ink on the links etc, which normally require color. Hope this is clear, if not feel free to ask me directly off-list. You could select "Print to File" in the report and it would be saved as rtf. Microsoft Word is the default but you can also "Open" the rtf file in Windows Wordpad. It won't have the indents but will print as plain text, whatever quality your printer allows you to choose. Is there anyway that you can print the Relationship Calculator Report.??? thanks for Input. Donna
When you establish a new event, you also need to configure the text output format. This structures the what in which the even information is output to the reports. Un-tick the ones you may not choose to use. This is a uniform config through the database, not singular for your event. If you take Date off once, its off for everybody. Hi, Can someone help me please? I am trying to modify and make a new template. I want to have the Occupation field - however it insists on that field being a date. I don't want a date. Just what the person did. How can I make that change: Carolyn
If you are using the File_Backup command and selecting the floppy drive, it should be automatic. The only problem might be if your disks are not actually empty. Make sure to use freshly formatted disks, and not the quick format, but the full process. If you are creating a backup to the hard drive and then trying to manually copy that file to the floppy it will not work. To span multiple floppies you have to create the backup directly to the floppy drive.
