    3. Running on XP/sp2 with 512M RAM and a multi-gig HD, I have a PAF 5 file that's about 15M -- nearly 40,000 names with notes. It keeps LOSING one family group. I imported from PAF 2.2 the husband and wife; then I added a daughter; and added her again when her brother was born; and again when the wife's parents were found, and again last night with her brother and her grandparents. Since I don't believe I could messed it up manually quite that many times (g), there has to be something else going on. Is "unlimited" perhaps not quite as limitless as I inferred? For extra points :( Any guesses how much data I've lost that I don't know about? Or, any ideas how to make it quit losing my cousin's wife and his kids? Cheryl

    3. This from the pafinsight mail list Message: 10 Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 12:50:21 -1000 From: "John Vilburn" <john@ohanasoftware.com> Subject: IMPORTANT: Server outage / Volunteers needed The LDS Church will be moving physical infrastructure associated with the FamilySearch Internet site to a new location. The following notice can be found on the www.familysearch.org site: "Beginning 25 Oct 2005, the Share tab, Sign on, Registration, and Contact Us features will be unavailable for 48 hours due to site maintenance. Thank you for your patience!" This means that PAF Insight will be unable to search the online IGI during this time. They have asked us at Ohana Software to assist them in some testing in connection with this change. Next Tuesday, October 25, they need help creating some PAF Insight traffic on the new servers. We need volunteers who are willing to load a special version of PAF Insight on their computers Tuesday morning before 10 am Mountain time. You would need to load your database into it and go into the IGI Search mode. The special version will check with the Ohana Software web site every few minutes, waiting for a "go" signal. Then it will begin performing IGI searches. It may start and stop a few times during the day. It will display a message when the test is completed. The test may be repeated several times during the day. During this time you could still use your computer, but we would ask you to leave PAF Insight running, or restart it if you need to reboot. We need a large number of volunteers, so please help if you can. If you would like to volunteer, send an email to volunteer@ohanasoftware.com. Thank you, John Vilburn Ohana Software LLC

    3. Boyoboyoboy!! Larry, that is a bummer!! I am having the dickens of a rime trying to enter names and dates for children, of a couple. The lady's name in my info form sources is known, but the program has her to be 'xxx /UNKNOWN/' and I have no idea how to change the names, so that there is only one marriage!! So, the children end up being 'adopted' when such is not the case!! Many little 'flippy-floppy' and (to me) strange results from what seem to be simple entrys!! It is a challenge!! 3. Hi Rick 1. Restore your original file (Preimptor) and start over. As some one suggested - create a NEW file from the gedcom and PICK the individuals you WANT to add to your file. I have a ritual I use on gedcom imports that works very well for me. 2. If you didn't backup before importing it is still salvageable. a. Match/Merge individuals b. In Advanced Focus/Filter go to each your most distant ancestors and Select All Descendants Related. (You can go to each ancestor and cumulate descendants.) c. Export the selected individuals as a gedcom and import the gedcom to a new data base Good Luck Ken ----- Original Message ----- From: Bartretrd@aol.com To: PAF-5-USERS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, October 20, 2005 9:40 AM Subject: Re: [PAF-5] Deleting family line from database In a message dated 10/20/2005 7:28:02 A.M. 3. Hi Joe, Reading between the lines in your description, it sounds like you have a father with two spouse records giving you two marriages, and one of them has the 'xxx /UNKNOWN/ name with the children linked to the marriage. If this is correct, then make a note of the RIN's for the 'xxx /UNKNOWN/ spouse and the children, and then double click on the marriage entry in the Family View to get the Edit Marriage record. Click on the Delete button to the right which will unlink everyone from that marriage. Then using the RIN numbers you jotted down, delete the Individual record for the 'xxx /UNKOWN/ spouse, and link the children to the remaining marriage entry. If the children are already linked to the correct marriage, then you won't have to do the last step. If I have interpreted your message incorrectly, please let me know. 2. Paula Mason
    3. Could be wrong, but last I knew, it was better to selectively import from a gedcom and avoid the to many does not apply trouble. Did the same several years ago in Paf 2.3. Learned my lesson. Now import into separate file and sort, before adding to main file. Good luck with your sort. Don't know about Insight, must look into it someday.

    1. Never import a Gedcom into your main Database
    2. Donna Autrey
    3. You don't want to import a GedCom into your main Database before you check it to see if you want everything. You can import it into a Separate New Data Base and edit it first. I think this is always a careful way to do this. Donna
