This will be for a college student who will take it to classes and won't be running PAF, at least now. Toshiba is the brand I remember but I can't find the message in the PAF archives. One person I know was required to place her laptop in her checked luggage for an international flight, and I'd like to have a laptop that could withstand the kind of treatment that checked baggage endures. Listers, I have searched the PAF archives and evidently didn't come up with a search term that worked. Someone wrote within the last couple of months and related that laptops were used in his business and they had to be rugged (probably not the correct word). He mentioned a brand that fit the bill, but the one I remembered doesn't come up in the archives, so I guess I remembered wrong. Can anyone remember this posting and help me find it? Thanks Lila

It depends a lot on how the person you send the information will use it. It isn't that simple. If the information is to be added to the receiver's database you should export a GEDCOM of the 2 families and attach that to an email. If they just want to see the Family Groups, go to Print Reports. Be sure you select "Print to File". With the family group open select Descendants and 2 generations. Preview to be sure it is as you want it to be and then click Print. It will print to an "rtf" file and can be viewed in Wprd or the Word viewer. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: "PAF-5-USERS" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2007 8:27 PM Subject: [PAF-5] sending select data as attachment on email > HI All, Just a dumb question from a simple user. PGee: Using PAF, you could print the family group sheets to an RTF file, then attach the RTF file to an e-mail message. (The RTF file can be opened by the recipient in Word, and should look quite a bit like what you would print out.) Using an add-on program like PAFWiz or Ancestral Quest, you could print the same family group sheets to a PDF file, then attach the PDF file. (The PDF file can be opened by the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on most computers, and should look exactly like what you would print out.) Hi everyone: I am very puzzled as to why the background I select for my Web Page does not appear when I print my document. I use PAF-5. Steps I use: Click on Web Page and select either Ancestors or Descendants then I select the Background (Tree3 or tree2), click OPEN and after giving a name to the Web Page, I click Finish. When I preview the document before printing, the background is there, but does not appear when I print! WHY? What am I doing wrong? Thank your for your help. Hi there, As an adoptive child myself, I can understand your frustration at not being able to sort this out. There is a VERY simple explanation of how to fix this. Highlight the child, then right mouse click, scroll down to "Edit parent links" then click in the field where it says "Relationship to parents" and change this - there are six (6) options to choose from. If you already have the respective biological and adoptive parents listed then click on the one you want as the primary , adoptive or biological, click on "Make Primary" and that will be that FIXED. The problem is solved. The edit menu did the trick. I discovered among other things that the individuals were also linked to empty marriages. Unlinking and deleting the empty marriages and clicking "Biological" was all that was needed Cutting and pasting notes is one thing, cutting and pasting all the events is another. Embarrassing, but nice to know that Edit can do more than order children 8^)) Thanks for the help. You can copy and paste all the notes to a word processing doc, then copy them back if necessary. Have you tried the following: 1. Highlight the child 2. Click on Edit on the menu bar. 3. Click on the word "Parents" 4. Examine the screen and find the place where you can click on a down arrow to choose the relationship for the child to the parents. See what is showing. If it is "Adopted", then click on the down arrow. 5. Click on Biological. 6. Click on Save. I hope this helps ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Right now I'm stumped. PAF-5 insists that two particular children are adoptive. They have been unlinked from their parents and relinked, no help. I deleted the marriage and reconstructed it, no help. The MRIN number was the same before and after the deletion and reconstruction. Does that matter? Check and repair on the file is clean. I haven't tried deleting the four individuals and reentering them yet since there are a lot of notes to contend with. And the problem doesn't occur with other families. Any suggestions? Will
I would re-enter them as new individuals, and copy and paste the notes and information from your old information. Then hook them up to the family, see if that works. Then delete the old ones, once you know the new ones are working. That may be a quick fix, then you won't lose your old data.
