Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look into the Gedcom reader. Sandy On 1 Mar 2008 at 17:03, [email protected] wrote: > I keep my data in a slightly non-standard way that helps me with that > task. I keep my data in a slightly non-standard way that helps me with that task. The pedigree chart can help. In addition, I make the first child in a family the direct relation, rather than all of them in birth order. PAF pings me for this, but I find it a lot easier to go through the database as a result. Not quite what you were looking for, but maybe a technique that you can use. I suspect there is a package that can do that relationship. I think there used to be a GEDCOM display package that had lines between different branches. That may almost be something that would be useful. Unfortunately, I can not find the program on my current system. It was a GEDCOM viewer. I might suggest trying Cyndi's List (http://www.cyndislist.com) to find possible programs under software. You actually might find some current packages on Cyndi's List that will meet the need and I have not even seen yet. Sandy --- I am not sure this will help but here goes: Be sure your name is in the upper left hand box as the Root Person Click on Tools Choose Prefence Choose File See the Relationship Indicators Check Show Relationships on status bar OK OK and in the far lower left hand corner you will see your relationship to whoever is highlighted (i.e. 1st Cousin 3 Times Removed) Autumn in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandy Rozhon" <[email protected]> Subject: [PAF-5] Will PAF show me the connections? I have a very large family tree with many side branches (ie. following various spousal families) and from time to time I find that someone's name is in my file but the path to them from me is so convoluted that it is hard to figure out. So I was wondering if PAF has some way of doing this, or if not, then is there some other genealogy software that can? I'm not talking about the relationship calculator exactly, because in most cases PAF wouldn't consider there to BE a relationship -- at least not one of direct descent. I just want to know how to get there from here. :) Sandy
Thanks Gaylon - isn't it always the way just after I wrote that message I figured it out. Thanks. Maureen ---- [email protected] wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. I am using PAFWiz 2 and would like to know if it is possible to obtain a list of Direct Ancestors only and their Wives which includes places, dates of births/christenings and deaths. Would be pleased if someone could advise me in simple steps. Thanks. Maureen.
Maureen: What you are describing sounds an awful lot like a standard Pedigree chart. PAFWiz 2 has many other reports, but it sounds like the Pedigree chart is what you are looking for. If not, please help us understand a little better. Gaylon Don't you think there should be a RootsWeb list for AQ? In such case persons using AQ will be able to ask questions and answers will be posted to that list for all interested persons to see? File>Export. However, if you are just keeping a backup it is better to simply do a backup to the CD or other location and then copy all of your picture files there also. That way you have an exact duplicate, not simply a GEDCOM. Use the GEDCOM for sending info to others. Gary already made other useful comments. Complete instructions on how to create gedcoms is in the help file. The specifics on how to get them onto a CD will vary depending on your burning software. How do I create a GEDCOM file to store on a CD? Dorothy
Thank you all, your assistance has resolved my problem and the chart is now in my Grandson's Inbox he can adjust it to his teachers desires when he produces and presents his draft on Thursday with the final result to be presented 1 week later. Thanks to you all for your help. Regards Col.
To date I have not printed any reports at all and yesterday my Grandson sought my help with a High School assignment he was doing about his Family Tree and history. The task requires that he produce a Box chart (Organisational type Chart) going back at least 5 generations at least. I have installed the current Paf Companion but i9t will only let me produce 3 generations. My question therefore is:- If I go ahead and get the unlock code is there any way of paying by credit card other than by 'phoning Salt Lake City from Australia. I, like needed this key yesterday but now tomorrow will have to be OK. Regards to all Col Paterson
Col Paterson: PAF 5 itself will do the report that I think you want. In the "Charts and Reports" screen, select the "Ancestry" or "Descendants" types of chart (depending on which type of chart you are referring to -- I think you want the Ancestry type), then select the "Wall Chart" option. Col, Try this toll-free number for FamilySearch Support in Australia: 1-800-083-293 If all else fails, a pedigree chart has the same exact info as the box chart, and it all fits on one page instead of 5. PAF can print a pedigree chart and I am sure the school would accept it.
