What kind of report? Do you have notes check for including in the result? If you print to file (box in the lower right of the reports menu), does the RTF come out correct? Bill > Me, again, asking for your help. Why do my Notes disappear when I preview and get ready to print? > > Thank you. Lucie >
Hi, everyone. Me, again, asking for your help. Why do my Notes disappear when I preview and get ready to print? Thank you. Lucie
Thank you everyone for your help. I downloaded the PAF-5 program and after copying what I had in my CD, I am now able to continue working with the program. Thanks again. Cordially, Lucie
Ahhhh, Bill, this is the answer I was looking for...thank you so much..... It was the scrapbook version that I needed.. Carol Message: 2 Date: Wed, 28 May 2008 08:51:12 -0700 From: "Bill Buchanan" <[email protected]> Subject: [PAF-5] Printing books and charts with photos To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Carol, It has been pointed out that the pictures are not stored in the PAF database. Instead, PAF creates links to the pictures, which are stored outside of the PAF file. But when you use PAF to create a book or chart that includes pictures, a copy of the pictures ARE created within the book. This is why a PAF database of 4-5 MB can produce a book that is 40-50 MB in size. Regardless where you store the book, its embedded pictures should be visible. A bigger problem seems to be getting the pictures to appear in the book or chart. A friend of mine with Office 2003 finally gave up trying, and brought his database and photos to my house, where it took 5 minutes to create the pedigree charts with embedded photos. We saved a copy in Microsoft Word97 format (the version of Word that I use) and he went home very happy! At home, he could open the Word file and all the photos were visible. He was ecstatic! Note that except for Scrapbooks, only the default photo is included. Maybe that is your problem. To see a Scrapbook with all the photos for an individual, select the individual, click the camera icon (or Ctrl + m) and select Scrapbook. For instructions on printing Scrapbooks, click the Help link when the Scrapbook is on the screen. To print a Scrapbook or a group of them, click the Scrapbook tab on the Print reports screen. As with any print job, always Preview first to make sure you are getting what you expect. I hope this helps. The photos are not embedded in the database, but are referenced by a location. If you move the file to a flash drive, you will have to move the photos also. I keep all my photos in a given folder and make it relative to the data folder. I have my data file in a folder "data" (actually a subfolder of PAF5) and have the pictures in a similar subfolder. The photos are then located as ..\pictures\<filename>. This way I can copy the picture folder and locate it is the same location relative to my data. I would like to add photos/marr. lic. to different people, but when I do and if I am lucky enough for it to appear in the "book" selection under "print", when I save it and go on to the next one (these are saved on a flash drive) and repeat the steps, when I go back to check on the last done, the photo is not there... I am running XP and Paf 5. Would appreciate some thoughts on what is going wrong... Carol

Hi everyone: I just had to replace my hard drive and nothing could be saved. Luckily I had saved most of what I entered in my PAF-5 program in a CD. I beleive I have to download the program again from familysearch.org products but I do not see the program PAF-5? What do I do now? Thank you. Lucie
Richard That sounds fantastic. I had a couple of strokes in Oct 2006 and am trying to rehab myself (we have a RASCALS club- Rogue Area Senior Computers who don't want to take computer classes at our local community college at the younger kids pace- so we meet almost weekly and offer classes of interest. The switch to Vista is in the works. Have almost depleted our group from Windows 95. Some diehards are still on 98 and of course- XP with service pack 2. Haven't come up with anyone who understands my needs. Not sure I know myself !!! Someone from our original group taught himself again after his stroke but he's long gone to his maker. I've had a couple of willing volunteers come to the house to help me but after typing at 90 words plus to hunt and peck I've not gotten too far yet on the road to recovery--still determined--any thoughts or secrets up your sleeve that will help me? One of PAF-UG members has a new (VISTA) computer. He remembers when he got the XP there was a number he called and they pushed PAF5 down to him. He wants to know if that service still exists and if so what's the phone number? Wish _I'd_ known about that number! I wasted weeks on dialup trying to get a clean d/l. (g) I've sent him the URL for d/l, but said I'd ask about the other if the d/l doesn't work for him. Thanks! Cheryl PS - is there anything I ought to be telling him about PAF's interaction with VISTA? -- There should be no attachments on this message, unless I specifically mentioned them above.
PAF 5 works perfectly with Vista. When I got my new computer with Vista on it I just downloaded PAF form the LDS site-nothing to it. Hi Bill, Thank you for your advice about copying to and from your laptop, and setting up PAF on a separate machine. You are right - it doesn't actually take long to do - it took me just about as long clearing space to put my laptop next to my computer! Take care, Rosemary In a very sunny Northumberland
Try http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/LDS_or_FHC/LDS- GENEALOGY.html All of the rootsweb lists are listed at http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/index.html or can be found by going down through the menus for this list. The LDS lists are under Other>LDS or FHC. You select that and get a collection of the LDS lists available. For instance, PAF lists are under Software. All the information about subscription and unsubscribing are included with each list and also in the registration e-mail sent. I always save those original e-mails to a registrations folder.
