    1. [PAERIE] Joab, Chloe and Henry M. Stafford c. 1840
    2. G. Stafford
    3. Aloha list: I'm the great-great-great-grandson of Joab and Chloe Stafford, and I'm trying to get some information about the family. Here's what I know: Joab Stafford was born in Pennsylvania abt. 1818. Chloe (maiden name unknown) was born in NY abt. 1821. Henry M. Stafford, their first child, was born in PA in 1842. The family moved to Dryden, MI between 1842 and 1850. Records I have found indicate that Henry was born in McKean, PA. I think that probably means McKean Twp, not McKean County, but I can't be sure of that. Any information you might have about Joab, Chloe or Henry would be greatly appreciated. Geoff Stafford

    3. Could he be a descendant of this Joab Stafford? The book is on Heritage Quest. Ther are lots of Joabs and Jobs mentioned but I see no Chloe. Benedict, Henry Marvin, A contribution to the genealogy of the Stafford family in America : containing an account of Col. Joab Stafford, and a complete record of his descendents in the male lines. Albany N.Y.: J. Munsell, 1870, 29 pgs. ------------------------ A Joab Stafford is listed in McKean TWP., Erie Co., PA in the 1820 census, with lots of other Staffords on the same page _ Jonathan, Jonas?, Henry, Lemuel and one I can't quite make out - Horrin? or Warren? maybe. I suspect your Joab is son of one of these. But there were an awful lot of Joabs and Jobs around in New England and NY, esp. Here's one that looks a lot like yours, in 1870: STAFFORD JOB 58 M W NY VT BENNINGTON BENNINGTON 1870 with Chloe 55, Henry 32, Frank 22, and a farm laborer named Charles Russell 19, all b VT except Job. Note birthplaces are different from what you have and ages of Chloe and Henry a little off your birth dates. How firm is you info? Could there possibly have been two Joabs/Jobs md. to a Chloe and b about 1812? Or could two of them have gotten mixed up somewhere along the way? Probably not - the data is just not very accurate, especially in the census. See 1880: Census Place Bennington, Bennington, Vermont Job STAFFORD Self M Male W 69 NY Farmer NY NY Chloe STAFFORD Wife M Female W 65 MASS Keep House MASS MASS Now she's born Mass., for crying out loud!
