This reply is to Steve, Regarding adoption records...my great grandfather was brought to Erie County in 1881 on an Orphan Train. I wanted to know about any possible adoption information. He was 12 at the time he came here, so we know some about his natural parents, but I wanted to know whether he was legally adopted or not. I was told at the Erie County Courthouse that the records were sealed. After 120 years who would really care about the adoption being unsealed? I could pay an attourney to petition the court to try to reopen the file. And then it might not be opened. Can you imagine what that would cost? I said forget it! I didn't want to know that badly. I'm not sure who they are "protecting" after all this time. Linda
