Hi, lists. I am trying to unravel a story my grandpa told me shortly before he died. It is turning into at least 3 stories as I find more info. He told a story of a baby girl whose mother died and whose maternal grandparents took in the small children while dad was resettling and then gave the boy back but not the little girl. He said her name was Nora. The father was Mark M. SHADDUCK/SHADDOCK; the mother who died, 2nd wife Ellen LONG. What I have found, through census and other records is that Ellen LONG Shadduck's baby girl was named Fannie E. (Actually Frances Evelyn and at 2yrs old she was living with her father and brothers in 1870 in Benton County, Iowa. At first I though grandpa just didn't remember right, but then I found the family with Nettie TOOLE SHADDUCK and more siblings but no Fannie. Then I find the death date for the first wife Sarah Elizabeth MCINTYRE/MCINTIRE 5 Nov 1856, age 20 yrs 3 months. There has never been any mention of her having any children. Then her marriage date came to light thanks to the kind and helpful Clinton County Genealogy Society people and others who have answered my queries even when I wasn't sure of what I was asking. Married 14 Feb 1856, 8 1/2 months before she died. I wondered, 'did she die in childbirth?' but no one seemed to know. No info on any child emerged. Then I found Sarah Elizabeth MCINTYRE with her parents in 1850 in Elk River Twp, Clinton County, Iowa. Then this summer I came upon a distant cousin who was reading off the backs of some old photos. Freda Shadduck, wife of Ira SHADDUCK; brother of Lee, Grant and Curtis; taken is Vail Crawford County, Iowa. This Ira I had never heard of until then, but I knew that the three brothers were 2nd wife Ellen LONG's children. I poured over Clinton County censuses but no luck with 1860,1870 or 1880 censuses. Then while I was tracking down someone else, I found James McIntyre with wife Mary, right ages, in the Springfield Twp, Erie County, Pa; 1870 Census. There was a James Chaddock of the right age living in the household and a Sarah McIntyre a year older supposedly. In 1880, Sarah the younger is listed as daughter and Ira Shaddock is out of the Household, living in the same twp and working for a neighbor. The trouble is, it is unlikely that they would have named another daughther Sarah with first Sarah not only living, but still in the household. I think that it is more likely that The younger Sarah McIntire is more likely Sarah McIntire Shaddock/Shadduck and that she was either born out of wedlockbefore the marriage or even more likely that she was actually a twin of James Ira Shaddock/Shadduck and She is the girl my grandpa said was talking about, although he didn't know that. I need to check a number of state censuses out and see if I can find them. Does anyone know of this family and if Sarah Elizabeth McIntire Shadduck had twins before she died? There may not be an obit, but I was wondering if Clinton County had one of those newsy community papers that reported in short illnesses, visits and such in 1856? I wonder it anyone knows of Sarah McIntire, abt 23 in 1880? Did she marry? Also There is a marriage listing for Elfriede Shaddock and & Wm H. Malone Marriage Records, Crawford County, Iowa. Index 1, Page 157. A cousin found that much info on a LDS film. Does anyone have access to the complete record? I do have the death record for Elizabeth Shaddock in Clinton County. Pamela
