    1. Re: [PAERIE] Census link
    2. Yes there are legitimate and not very expensive ways to get the very fine quality census records from HeritageQuestOnline. Another way is to ask your local library if they can subscribe to it. In this era of tight funds you will have to find an advocate in the library who would ask for the funding. Our genealogical librarian at my local library has gotten funding for it two years in a row, but that can always be denied the next time. If you belong to a genealogical society you can ask them to subscribe. My local society is working on making this a member benefit so that for a slight additional fee over membership you can sign up for the service and use it as a member of the society. The cost to the society is a base fee plus $1 per member (not member that uses it but across all members). So it is an investment for the society. I can put you in touch with a contact at Heritage Quest if the Erie Society or anyone else would like to investigate this. I talked with Heritage Quest at GenTech in St. Louis in January and was very impressed with this new program of access for societies. I have a feeling that the "free census" got around the web and it was shut down due to abuse. It has cost this very reputable company lots of money to convert the film to scanned images, clean them up, provide the website and powerful search engine and re-index very carefully the census so that you can find your ancestors. Please expect to pay for the services rendered. Is $35 or even $25 per year too much to ask for unlimited remote access? -- Elissa Powell, CGRS CGRS and Certified Genealogical Records Specialist are Service Marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists used under license after periodic evaluations by the Board. http://www.BCGcertification.org/ On Wed, 31 Mar 2004 04:49:17 -0800 (PST) Barbara <ropetracer@prodigy.net> writes: > It would appear to me that the taxpayer citizens of Delta Co. > Colorado are > paying for this service for their use.
