As there has been some query posts to this mail list recently, I thought I would take the opportunity to remind all list members about the GENCONNECT query system available through the Erie County Genealogy Web page. This query system, and the associated Wills, Obituaries, Biographies and Deeds, allow anyone to post information which is then available on a global search basis. Anyone wishing to post a query may go directly to the Erie County (PA) query system by clicking here --> http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Erie or from the Erie County Genealogy home page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/ scroll down to Research Recourses and click on Queries (dark green underlined). When the resulting page appears, click on the underlined Post a Query at the end of the first text paragraph. This page is actually the old query system, but sends one to the new query system to 'post a query'. Unfortunately, I noted that there is still an opening into the old system and some 'new' (since Sept 1, 2000) queries have been posted to the old system. I am working with Mike Wennin to correct that hole and to 'archive' all old queries. I will be advising those who posted recently to the 'old' system that they should repost to the Rootsweb standardized GENCONNECT query system. Unfortunately, there is no utility available to convert 'old' queries to GENCONNECT, so the old system needs to still be available for one to do lookups. There is also a Surname and Researcher profile lists associated with the old system which will be discussed at some time in the future. Mike has asked me to coordinate any questions concerning the use of these systems, as he is working full time (and then some) and I remain 'retired', so anyone with questions or comments should direct them directly to me off list at [email protected] and I will address whatever your issue or question might be.
