    3. Hello list, I have had several e-mail messages recently directed only to me that is prompting this e-mail. I am in a position to post to the web site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie any information concerning Erie County (PA) Genealogy that is submitted to me, as long as there is not a copyright issue. If the information is not posted, then it probably has not been supplied to me. I am NOT in a position to research for the information, or to do lookups. I will attempt to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge, but in most cases the questions are best directed to the list directly and/or through placing a query in the GenConnect system. With regard to cemetery information, if anyone has contact information for cemeteries listed on our cemetery index page, please provide that information so it can be posted. As stated on that page, there are about 30 more known cemeteries and burial grounds than what are on the list, and I am happy to accept information about them and post it if it is provided. I do not have information about cemeteries, unless it is posted (or something that I just gained knowledge about). I have recently joined the Erie Society for Genealogical Research (ESGR) and will be working with them in trying to make cemetery information more readily available, or to list where that information can be found. In some cases cemetery readings have been done in the past which MIGHT be made available for posting, or if there is any kind of 'permission' issue, then I will try to post where a person might go for the information. For example, a recent book published by one of the Fairview organizations lists all burials in Fairview Cemetery. I don't have the details of this book, but when I do I will post where one might write to purchase a copy of the book. Naturally, all of this is not going to get done overnight. My job of posting information can best be enhanced by the continued support of those volunteers who have been providing information in the past, and from those of you out there who may have information that has not been submitted. One additional note about copyright and reprints. It is crystal clear that any material prior to 1924 is free and clear of any copyright restrictions and may be openly transcribed, posted, copied, etc. When a pre-1924 book is reprinted, the original words and pictures of the original author can not be copyrighted. However, any new material or changes to the original document does fall under copyright. Usually, when an old book is reprinted by a historical or genealogical organization it is done so as a method of enhancing their treasury so that they may stay in business. Sometimes they only break even. Sometimes it is reprinted for entirely different reasons. But there is a fine line between making some of this information readily available on the Internet, versus making one go to a library or purchase a book. To avoid issues, if anyone is going to submit information from a reprinted document, first of all, DO NOT take the information from the reprint, but only from an original pre-1924 document. Then second, please coordinate with me so I may determine from the organization doing the reprint as to why they did a reprint, so we can all walk that fine line. I am still looking for individuals who would like to assist on the township level on the site as a township coordinator. One does not have to live there, only have some interest in the township and a little knowledge about the township. One does not need to know anything about web pages. Open townships - Conneaut, Elk Creek, Franklin, McKean, Greene, Greenfield, Amity, Wayne, North East, Lawrence Park, City of Erie, City of Corry. I am working with people on Springfield and Harborcreek and hope to announce something soon.
