Searching for the Irish Mackey family who may have been camped-out in 1819, where a son George Mckey was born. Mohawk seems to be a key word, and an old Atlas refers me to Ivarea, Erie County, PA. I can find neither in my 1896 Atlas. Anyone hear of these places or the Mackeys, who eventually travelled East to Saratoga County, NY maybe along the Mohaawk River. Thanks, Ron Yielding Palm Springs, CA
Hi, all. My map shows an "Avenia" right near Lake Erie soutwest of Millcreek. Could your place name have gotten corrupted in spelling through the years? Just thought I'd throw that out as a suggestion. Linda in Utah Ron Yielding wrote: > Searching for the Irish Mackey family who may have been camped-out in > 1819, where a son George Mckey was born. Hi: Just thought I would put my two cents worth in on this Ivarea business. I don't think you will find it on any map as, from what my mom used to tell me, it was a little settlement near Platea It was pronounced "I-va-ray". Anyway, that's the general area. Ivarea is at the intersection of Crane & Ivarea Roads right on the north-south line between Franklin & Elk Creek Townships. Dick Tefft
