This confused me because I knew about the village of Lundy's Lane/Wellsburg and also knew it was in the western part of the county, not near enough to the City of Erie to be enumerated as part of the city. Tonight I looked at the 1860 census images online at Ancestry.com. The census pages for the City of Erie are broken down into two groups on the Ancestry site and all the various townships are listed separately by township. For the City of Erie, the two groups are labeled Erie City (121 pages) and Erie East Ward (116 pages). When I looked at the actual pages in the two groupings, at the top of each page in the Erie East Ward group it says "City of Erie" and "Post Office: Erie" while the pages in the Erie City group say "City of Erie" and "Post Office: Lundys Lane." So . . . it appears the Lundys Lane post office district possibly covered all of the west side of the city of Erie in 1860. I believe the naming of the Lundy's Lane Post Office district in the City of Erie is coincidental to the naming of the community of Lundy's Lane in Elk Township.
