Wasn't it the Sisters of St. Joseph who ran St. Joseph Orphanage? Perhaps getting in touch with them would lead to any records left. I do know that HANDS (Housing and Neighborhood Development Services) bought the property from the diocese back in the Carter administration (Roslyn Carter came to the open house) and renovated and added on to create apartments for senior citizens and handicapped individuals. It had been empty for something like 20? years... it was a mess! Quite a renovation project to get it as beautiful as it is today. I also know that there are former orphans in Erie. Joe Lucky, I believe, is one of the people who grew up at St. Joe's. He is a well known fixture at Gannon University. Perhaps contacting Joe would get you more information, as he may have already gone this route, or known others who have.
