Hi Listers and Ian Brown...I have checked my copy of Robert MacDonald and David Frew's "Home Port Erie" for references to the war effort participation of our four best known local ship yards (Loomis, Paasch, Lund, and Nolan) and have found none. However, as the Great Lakes fleet of ore carriers and all of its auxiliary vessels were a vital part of the nations war machine, an assignment at virtually any Great Lakes yard would have some war effort ramifications.
