    3. Depending on his age, he may not have had a SSN. SSNs were not required until the 1960s sometime. Do you have information on where he entered service from, what branch of service, how old, birth date, birth place, etc. If he entered service in Erie County, and died during the war, then the Veterans Affairs office in the courthouse may have a record of him. This won't give you a SSN (it will give the military service number which will probably be needed if you are trying to obtain records), but not sure why you want an SSN.
