This is a real long shot. I have recently learned that the parentage of my gr-grandfather is questionable. According to family information, his name is Ethelbert Livingston Emerson but I am unable to verify his natural parents since a birth certificate does not exist. All I know is that he was allegedly born in November of 1861 in Erie County, PA, a land patent was issued to him in the State of Wisconsin in 1900 under the name Ethelbert Emerson, and he died in Charles City, IA. I am questioning the legitimacy of his birth to Josiah & Harriet Emerson, since the obituary for Josiah does not include him in the list of children. In addition, he does not appear in a family portrait taken well after the time of his birth. I am thinking that perhaps his middle name of Livingston may be a clue to his actual parentage. Can anyone make any suggestions on how to pursue this? Linda Emerson Twain Harte, CA
