Hi All ~ In researching for my husband's great-grandfather, Samuel C. Patterson in the Mercer/Erie Co. PA area, I sent off & paid for a probate record hoping it would be of some help. It wasn't our Patterson's, but hopefully someone on the list can use this record. I'll be glad to send it to anyone interested. I'm including the Chautauqua Co. NY area because the probate was actually filed in Mayville - how it popped up in Mercer Co. where I was looking, I'm not sure. Samuel A. Patterson was husband of Martha L. Patterson of Sheridan, he had sons John V. and James G. both of Sheridan, and daughter Mary A. Ward of Forestville. He died 12 October 1883 according to the Surrogate's Court Proceedings on Probate of Will dated 13 November 1883. This document is 9 pgs in length. ~gina~ ===== ~gina thomas patterson~ Please visit my home page at www.burningskyenterprises.com, click on "Family Album". It still is - in the COUNTY of Erie <smile>. It's a few miles NE of Ashtabula, OH, sort of between Cranesville and Albion, near the lake. I'm sure you can find it on Mapquest.com or other online map services. Hi, Cousin Laurel!!! I don't have any info to speak of about your Lee side, but according to my FamilyTreeMaker file, I'm your 2nd cousin once removed -- and, more importantly, I have lots of information on the Walling line that I'd be delighted to share with you! I have been trying to research my dad's LEE family in Erie Co.--Northeast, PA to be exact. My dad's father, William (Bill) John Lee, divorced my dad's mother, Jean Walling about 1940 and rumor was he remarried within 10 years or so after that. His parents were George LEE and Mary Louise MCLAUGHLIN. George's parents were John Edward LEE and Margaret MOSTON. We just recently found an old letter that had the woman's name tha William married after my grandmother. Her name is Mrs. CARMEN (Valerie/Valery) FARBO. Her maiden name was SORGER. We do know that apparently growing up, (when she was a SORGER), she lived in the 1300 block of W. 10th Ave in Erie in a house once occupied by Bill BRENNAN's family. The letter says that Bill Brennan was an architect and his wife worked for the Dept. of Public Welfare. The letter says that before WWII, Brennans sold the house to the Sorger family, who they believe later sold it to Dr. JACKMAN and in 1982 it was owned by Warren JONES. This Valerie FARBO, in 1982, was supposed to be living at 3431 W. 41st St. in Erie. This info was given to my aunt at the time from a Jean or Joan CRONIN wife of Bob DAILEY, former county official. So if any of these family names ring a bell, they may be friends of this family that could get me some info on them. William Lee basically disappeared sometime after 1948 or so. Rumors were he was killed in a bar fight in Mexico, but no one knows for sure, not even his own mother. If anyone can possibly find out any further info based on this new info, it would be greatly appreciated. Someone already researched the Erie Co. marriage records for William LEE around that time and didn't find any. Some suggestions have been to check out the Ripley, NY area. That is where he married my Grandmother. I intend to check that out. I also got a phone number for the house that Mrs. Farbo lived in, and is now occupied apparently by her daughter in law. I've called and only got an answering machine, so I may just write a letter. Basically, my dad would like to know if this Mrs. Carmen (Valerie) Farbo did marry William Lee, his dad. And did they have any children? I guess the years would be sometime between 1940-1955 or so. I have access to the census info and cannot find much info that would help. I really need directory info for the 1940-55 years that might tell me if they were living together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Laurel Anderson

Hello List, We are continuing the cemetery theme for July. A lot of new info has been posted, with more on the way. I will be offline from Thursday midnight until early Monday. Going to visit step daughter and grand daughter in New Jersey. Web site will run by itself and if anyone sends me any contributions, the messages will wait my return, along with all the spam that still makes it through the spam filter. I will update website updates sometime next week. In the meantime, I invite everyone to visit the What's New page at www.rootsweb.com/~paerie Bill Klauk Volunteer County Coordinator, Erie Co (PA) Genealogy
I looked and looked - but found neither of these guys, or their wives, in Erie Co. in 1860 or 1870. I did find a Milton Porter in 1860 in Erie Co., but he was 41 and had a different wife (Emeline). Could they have lived somewhere else? Used other given names? Their surnames are too common to do a universal search. Richard, My Reed ancestor, David Reed, listed his address as a man Erie County when he purchased land in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1803. I am not sure if he had been there a long time, or just passing through. Since early Erie records are very scarce, I've never found anything on him. His mother was an Elizabeth, but know very little about her husband or her parents, do have some evidence, but nothing documented. Doris Reed Forsyth In my local library I just found yesterday a reference for the surname I am researching that appears to have had a bio write up. The reference given was "Erie County History by Reed ", and I wonder if anyone has a copy of that and could look up my surname to see whether this was a long bio or a passing mention. ---Richard ______________________________

Stacey, there are some web sites for railroad afficianados, PA RR especially. Do a Google search -- that's how I found them. They may be able to help you identify the specific railroad. And there are a couple museums that house the old payroll records of the PA RR. If he was a section hand, the railroad was probably not being built. He would have been responsible for making repairs over a certain length of existing track. Just because his wife's obit says he was dead, that doesn't necessarily make it so. Being an Irish family, he could have been "dead to them", meaning "we don't want any association with him". It was also a way to save face to avoid saying "the rotten old so and so deserted me". Neither of these explanation may be the correct one for your family, but I wanted to make the point that the obit may not necessarily be accurate. Hope this might help a little. I need a small miracle here. Does anyone know of any railroad pension records available for any railroad in Erie Co from abt. 1920 -1950? The Railroad Retirement Board can't help me because I don't have enough info on my great-grandfather, Daniel Caughlin. He disappeared some time after 1923 (last time family saw him), but his wife--Lena's obit in 1950 indicated that he had already died so someone knew about it. The county, library, and state can't locate death info for him though. He's not in the SSDI either. Daniel's wife--Lena was still living in Girard on the 1930 census and still married, but Daniel wasn't with her and I can't locate him on the 1930 census. He was a section-hand b/w 1910 & 1920, living in Harborcreek, Northeast, and Girard. I need a new angle to find out when/where/how he died. Anyone know anything about Daniel Caughlin or perhaps know of a railroad being built in Erie Co b/w 1923 & 1930 that may have led Daniel to another county or state? Also, does anyone know of any RR pension records available for Erie Co b/w 1920 & 1950?? Thank you for any info or advice you may offer!! I don't know if there is a connection, but my great-great-great-great-great aunt, Anna COLLIER, was married to Orange KING. Although both Orange and Anna are buried in Onondaga County, NY, Anna's sister, my great-great-great-great grandmother, Rebecca COLLIER and her husband James BATES, moved to Ellington, in Chautauqua County, NY around 1815 and at least two of their children lived in Erie County, including my great-great-great grandfather, Alpheus BATES. Since they ended up nearby, I thought there might be a chance that your KINGs are somehow connected to Orange KING. If someone can look this up for me or tell me how to obtain an obituary that would have appeared in an Erie paper about August 1, 1941 for a Mrs. Martha C. Smith (maiden name Mullin/Mullen) who was born in Norwood, Canada in 1864. She was married to a John H. Smith and had lived in Warren PA until about 1911 when they moved to Erie. I'm getting "closer" to my Mullin/Mullen family!!! Thank you! Ginny
Hi Julie, I noticed that in 1910 there was a Charles Keech 17 living at the Elmwood Home. Also a friend of mine emailed and Lucy King Dutton is living with a brother in Wayne Township in 1880 and is listed as a widow. In 1850 Lucy and Calvin S Dutton are listed with children, and on the same page and after some King families there is another Calvin Dutton with a wife Lucina, which explains why a death list I have did not have Lucy on it, but I have to check the dates as I think they have the date of birth for Calvin S, I'm not sure. Will check it tonight. Gail
