I doubt if this is any help, but found it in a Google search. It was referring to a funeral in Pittsburgh (Andy Warhol's): ...the coffin was driven to St. John Divine Cemetery in Bethel Park. But I believe that town is in Allegheny Co. PA, south of Pittsburgh. And these are the only two places that showed up on a GNIS search for Russian Cemetery in PA - none listed in Erie Co. Of course, their list may not be complete, especially when it comes to small older cemeteries. And the name could have changed... Russian Orthodox Cemetery PA Columbia cemetery 410336N 0761601W Mifflinville Russian Cemetery PA Lackawanna cemetery 412950N 0753900W Scranton There are 3 cemeteries listed by GNIS on the Harborcreek 7.5 map: Bohoslov Cem., Jacob Cem., and St. Gregory Cem. There is a St. Johns Cem. on the Fairview map - looks like it's in Girard. Hope this helps... --- Joseph Schmitt <djjoe@velocity.net> wrote: > Hi folks, can anyone tell me where > in Harborcreek is this place? It's also called > the "Russian Cemetery". There were about 14 Turners in Erie Co. in 1870 but these are the only ones in Springfield Twp.: TURNER LESTER 9 M W OH PA ERIE SPRINGFIELD TWP 1870 TURNER LEVI 43 M W PA PA ERIE SPRINGFIELD TWP 1870 Levi, wife Martha and 8 kids, all b PA, were two pages before the boy Lester, b OH, who was living with Myra Pratt, 52, b NY. The P.O. was Girard for both. You can check the 1880 census yourself at familysearch.org though looking for all Turners in a twp. and co. can be a daunting task on that one. --- Trippworks59@wmconnect.com wrote: > Hi > Are there any other Turner families living in > the area around Springfield > Twp., Erie Co., PA on the 1870 or 1880 census? > My Levi lived in W. Betty, The only Levi Turner with wife Julia in 1850 lived in New London, Huron, Ohio. Her name was Julia Ann. They were both born in NY. They were still there in 1860, 1870, and 1880. The only child listed for this couple during that entire period was an adopted daughter, Nora, age 11, in 1880. Here are three Rimpa entries in the 1910 census. I have no idea what the spellings might have been before immigration. I see no earlier occurrences of the name RIMPA in the (admittedly incomplete) census indexes I have. RIMPA JOHN 22 M W RUSS IL COOK 12-WD CHICAGO 1910 RIMPA JOSEPH 26 M W GERM IL COOK 29-WD CHICAGO 1910 RIMPA PEITO 30 M W FINL OR WASHINGTON GALES CRK PCT 1910 This is the only RIMPA in 1920: RIMPA EDDWALD 42 M W POLA IN LA PORTE SPRINGFIELD TWP 1920 The name seems to have come from all over northeastern Europe, though they may all have had common (Germanic?) roots. Or they may all have had names that were separately simplified into the same one when they came here to the states. I also found some REMPA entries - most of Polish or German birth and one born in Holland, in 1870, 1900, 1910 and 1920. The name RIMPAS occurs once or twice in 1910 and 1920, one from Greece, one from Germany, one born NY. Your sister might want to keep these variations in mind while doing her research. Nothing in PA I'm afraid. If she hasn't already, your sister might want to collect as much detailed info as possible from all living RIMPA relatives, family Bibles and other documents, and check immigration records (see archives.gov) esp. between 1890s and 1910s. She should also check for birth, death, burial and marriage records where the family as known to have lived, etc., working backward in time, keeping very thorough notes. She may be able to contact some living Rimpas, in Erie Co. e.g., by looking them up in online white pages or doing a People Search. I found 38 entries beginning with RIMPA this way; some were spelled Rimpau, some even longer. A few were in PA - in Ligonier, Union City and Waterford. --- Karleen <eeyore@ojai.net> wrote: > I am trying to help my sister with her Rimpa > family line.
