    3. Cindy, The 1900 and 1910 census are indexed at Genealogy.com and the 1920 and 1930 census are indexed at Ancestry.com. The 1910 census for 3d ward Erie on page 3A shows Harry Hunt, age 28, with wife Lillian, age 32, and daughter Edna, age 1 month. This was apparently Lillian's 2d marriage, and she was shown as mother of 8, with 6 living. There was a Lillian J. Hunt in Crawford county 1930, age 54, divorced, working as a housekeeper. There was a Edna Hunt in Lancaster county 1920, age 12, working as a servant in the Charles Bacon household. Harry will be hard to find. 3. Happy New Year to Everyone, This is my first posting to Erie. I’m doing some research for a family member. His mother Edna HUNT was born in Erie in 1908. She is living with her parents Harry and Lillian and step brother Brady HANEY. I’m not sure how long the family lived in Erie, another daughter Irene was born to Harry and Lillian in 1913. In 1915 the couple divorced and the children were supposedly either taken or placed in an orphanage. I don’t have access to the 1900 or 1920 census but could someone tell me how they’re searched. Soundexed by township? Or can I use ancestry at the library and do just a name search? I’ll be going on Monday and would like to know the easiest way to find Harry HUNT? All Hunts and Haneys were born in PA but I only know that Edna was born in Erie. Are marriage license accessible? I’d be looking for Harry HUNT and Lillian COLE about 1907 Thanks for any Erie help or advice on where to start. Thanks, Cindy from Bowerston Ohio --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Jeff, The archived queries for the Erie, PA board are apparently not accessible at the moment. I tried another tack -- looking for the poster, Frances M. Hart, at Rootsweb since many of us don't post queries to only one place! That turned up a 1999 post from Frances M. Hart, and the email address given then was peghart@execpc.com. You might try emailing her to see if she's the same person. Also, you might try posting to the Warner board at Rootsweb (in the Surnames section). _______________________ Just as I was about to send this email off, I decided to take another look at the snippet of post that's available when googling for "Walter Byron Warner" -- I don't know why, but I clicked on "cached" following the snippet -- and it brought up that page!!! (I always thought that "cached" referred to Internet websites I had previously visited, that remained in my own computer's cache until I either closed the browser or rebooted the computer. Maybe the cache referred to is Google's cache? in which case, it could have all sorts of "hidden" info to explore!) Under Erie County, PA Posted Queries for June 1999 is the entire post: BIRD, WARNER posted by Frances M. Hart on Wednesday, June 16, 1999 Seeking information on whereabouts of Walter Byron WARNER,son of Walter W. and Almira BIRD WARNER, born Feb. 21,1832 Fairview,Erie Co.,PA in 1850 and his marriage his marriage to 1st wife Caroline __?, married ?, divorced 1862 Erie Co., children? 1. Re: [PAERIE] Fw: Deed searches
    2. John, Did it look like the films were from Harrisburg? They are probably the original land patents. A land patent is when a government sells the first title to a piece of land. So PA land patents would be from William Penn and heirs to individuals. Afterward when an individual sold to another individual, it was called a deed. There are certain formalities to go through to obtain a land patent, including a survey and a "warrant." These records may also be sought at the state level. You can learn more by doing a google search on Pennsylvania Land Patents, or reading anything that Jonathan Stayer or Donna Munger has written. Best wishes, Elissa On Tue, 9 Dec 2003 16:56:58 -0500 "John Bellman" <jbellmail@earthlink.net> writes: > I looked at the LDS catalog and found a listing of films of PA > Bureau of > Land Records for the Erie area circa 1796-1864. 3. I looked at the LDS catalog and found a listing of films of PA Bureau of Land Records for the Erie area circa 1796-1864. Does anyone know the meaning of the following terms? Patents Town lots vs. In-lots vs. Out-lots ???? Any help appreciated. 3. In-lots were small town lots (maybe a 1/2 acre or less); out-lots were larger and outside of town (3-4 acres or more). At least one source describes town lots (lots in town, of course) as consisting of 72 square poles (6 by 12 poles). I leave that conversion to you <smile>. A land patent is proof of ownership of land, a "perfect title" to land, better than a deed (color of title). --- John Bellman <jbellmail@earthlink.net> wrote: > I looked at the LDS catalog and found a > listing of films of PA Bureau of > Land Records for the Erie area circa 1796-1864. > Does anyone know the meaning > of the following terms? > > Patents > Town lots vs. In-lots vs. Out-lots ???? > > Any help appreciated. > > John Bellman > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <espowell@juno.com> > To: <PAERIE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 11:00 AM > Subject: Re: [PAERIE] Fw: Deed searches > > > > There are three ways to gain access to > information in the Erie County > > deeds: > > 1. 1. Re: [PAERIE] delayed 1904 birth certificate
    2. Aside from visiting the Erie County courthouse yourself, or having someone else do it for you, you can also go to your local LDS Family History Center and get the microfilms of the original records. They have filmed the Delayed birth certificate dockets, which were filed 1941-1955 and are indexed on Film #879448. Are you sure she filed a delayed birth record? If so then this is better than a birth certificate because they usually had to prove through witnesses or a written account (like a family bible) what their birthdate was. People usually filed for a delayed record when their birth was not initially recorded (as in a lot of the pre-1906 births) and they needed a proof of birth for social security. This is also why the censuses were soundexed for the years they are as the government realized they could use the census to help prove people's ages. 1. [PAERIE] delayed 1904 birth certificate
    2. Michael Swanson
    3. What is the best way to get a delayed birth record for someone born in Erie County, April 19, 1904. The person's name is Mary Alma Weidemann, and the mother is Mary E. Weidemann (nee Monahan). I am hoping the record has information about the birthplace of the mother. Thanks! Michael Swanson

    1. Re: [PAERIE] Fw: Deed searches
    2. There are three ways to gain access to information in the Erie County deeds: 1. Go to the Recorder of Deeds office in the Courthouse on 6th Street in Erie and look them up yourself. 2. Hire someone to go for you. 3. Go to your local LDS Family History Center and order the microfilmed copies of the records. They have Microfilm of original records in Erie County Courthouse, Erie, Pennsylvania for: Deed books, 1823-1886; deed index, 1823-1946 Best wishes on your research, Elissa > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <ReesAdam@aol.com> > To: <ErieCoGenie@worldnet.att.net> > Sent: Saturday, December 06, 2003 7:51 PM > Subject: Deed searches > > I am writing to ask if you have any information or advice on how to go > about searching deeds, in Erie County, Pennsylvania.
