The VA office in Erie is located in the County Courthouse. They do have listings of pretty much all of the cemeteries that have veterans but it is only about 60% of the cemeteries/burial places in the county. Can anyone give me the location of the VA office in Erie County? I've just learned something interesting from a correspondent that is worth sharing: "The VA office in each county maintains a listing of all veterans of all wars. FOR FREE they will give you a printout of your serviceman's record plus (if you ask for it) a copy of maps showing all cemeteries in that county. Any county VA office in PA will have the records for the entire state but only a county VA office can give you the maps. When I was there 2 years ago they were hoping that within a year or two to be able to pull up on the computer any serviceman in the country. So you might try your local VA office (remember it's the office not a VA hospital) and you might get real, real lucky." Thanks... Linda Emerson Twain Harte, CA
Found my notes regarding the Francis Cemetery It regards Samuel Francis and his wife, Joanna Brigdon. According to the booklet, the " The Descendants of Robert Francis of Wethersfield, Conn.", Samuel is the fourth generation b. 1723. Marries 27 Nov 1751. settles at Southwick Mass about 1770, they have several children who are registered in the Wethersfield Record. His sons all enlisted in the revolutionary army from Mass. According to this item they removed to Essex Co. NY and the sons all settled in Girard Township. This last statement is not quite true however. The record shows that there were two more sons, at least, who are born in Southwick, one of whom I'm descended from, Moses Francis who marries Elizabeth Kelsey in Conn. They ended up in Lenox, Madison county, NY. Their son, Aralsemon, marries a Saphronia Ufford, daughter of Joel Ufford and Lucy Stanton of Vermont. Aralsemon is the last Francis I have in my direct line. I do know that another son went to Erie county, NY. Plus, Moses' borther Aaron also settled in Madison county. In any event, those Francis's buried in the Francis cemetery are my kin. Vern Hall
Good Evening folks, I am searching for the Marriage License of a marriage that took place in Cuyahoga County, Ohio in 1864(5). Could anyone tell me where the Court House is located for that county. I realize this is another county but hope someone will be knowledgeable about what I am looking for. Any help much appreciated, Jessie Burton from the drippy Okanagan.
Hello List, Earlier I mentioned that I had come across a cemetery that was not on our posted list on Friday afternoon taking the long about way to get from one side of Millcreek Twp to the other. I had in fact wandered all the way down to Waterford Twp, although I did get some nice 'barn' pictures which will we posted to other albums soon. I was actually looking to rediscover the one room school house that I posted to the Waterford album earlier, but I think I was too far south. In the meantime, here is the promised pictures of the Sharpe Cemetery on Sharp Road - index format - http://www.zing.com/album/pictures.html?id=4293434635 and album format - http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293434635 . Enjoy! Bill Klauk

Sorry, but I didn't follow the recent thread related to cemetery information so I get to have egg on my face by asking this question. Does anyone know if the Evergreen Cemetery is still in existence? The only information I could find was on the website, Cemetery Junction, and this is the information listed: Evergreen Cemetery Concord St. Union City 16438 Can anyone in the Union City area complete the address for me? Many thanks... Linda Emerson Twain Harte, CA
Hi List and Mike, Discovered today another cemetery that is not on our posted list - the Sharpe Cemetery at the corner of Sharp Road and Bagdad Road behind the church which is now the First Spiritualist Church of Erie. It used to also be behind what the man who lives next door told me was an old falling down one room school which the fire department put the torch to about a month ago. I took a number of pictures of this cemetery and will build a Zing album for them. Stay tuned. [Note the cemetery name has an "e" on the end, but the road does not.] Bill Klauk (going the long way from one side of Millcreek Township to the other Friday afternoon)
Hi List, I have updated my Millcreek Township photo page at Zing at http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293652649 and added the 4 photos of the stone on Millfair Road which I reported in an earlier e-mail. Zing has made some changes to their album presentation lately and now when you use the URL of the type given here, you get a "Album cover" with an Enter (underlined). If you want to view the album as thumbnails, click on the "Index". The default is now screen size photos one at a time. Bill Klauk Millcreek Township, Erie Co., PA

HI Folks! It was brought to my attention that my request for volunteers was unclear. And after re-reading it I can see that it wasn't clear! What I need is for some folks in Erie to take the time to go out to these 6 cemeteries (sites) and re-read them. This should not take much time at all for some of them, as most have only a couple of names on them. I quick note sent to me with the data and I will give you credit on the site for the contribution of the information. So, if you live near any of these cemeteries, please stop by them this weekend and read the names off of the stones. The Old Marcy Brock Burial Plot Sherman Cemetery Stafford Burial Plot Stancliff Cemetery The Christian Stones in East Springfield In the mean time, I have changed the links to the readings to go to the PA State Archives where the information was originally found. Many thanks to all who responded to my request for information on Henry Emerson, and a special thanks to those of you who sent the .jpg file of the Pension record. It had been a while since I felt the excitement of a discovery in this research! Thanks for helping me remember the thrill... Linda Emerson Twain Harte, CA

Does anyone have any information about the cemetery located on the Cery Farm? This farm might be located at the top of Ryan Hill. The Silverthorn family once owned or established the Cery Farm. There is a cemetery located on this property. That cemetery might be known as The Silverthorn Cemetery. Hi list, After seeing a large stone with a plaque on it by the side of Millfair Road (Millcreek side), just south of Swanville Road (the original Ridge Road) for the last several months, I finally stopped to investigate it. Even though I go up and down Millfair Road 4 or 5 times a week (since April), I had never noticed the stone before. The stone reads - ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FOUNDED ON THIS SITE APRIL 19, 1819 WITH THE DEEDING OF GRAVEYARD AND WHEATON MEETING HOUSE As there is apparent home construction going on in the area, I am not sure if this stone has always been here (and I just didn't see it), was just placed here recently, or if it was in another location in the area and has only recently been moved to the edge of the road. I have 4 photos of the stone with its plaque which I will add to the Millcreek Zing album in the next day or so. I would be interested if anyone is familiar with this. I have read thoroughly extracts from 3 different Erie county histories and although I have found a reference to Wheaton Meeting House, there is no reference to a graveyard. The present day church and graveyard of course are about a mile of so east of this location at 26th and Asbury. If I get a chance I am going to try to inquire at the church but wanted to post this in case anyone is familiar with it. Bill Klauk Millcreek Township, Erie Co., PA
