    1. Re: [PAERIE] VA Office Found!!
    2. William Klauk
    3. While Linda's effort is noble, the information presented below (along with the correction in the phone number) is NOT the office which handles county veteran burials or lists of cemeteries with veterans buried in them. As Dick Tefft already pointed out, this office is in the Erie County Courthouse. The office at 1000 State St is the "Vet Center" - Veterans Administration Readjustment and Counseling Center. Unfortunately, I could not follow up until this morning when I made several phone calls. The Erie County Veterans Affairs office is in room O8, West Wing, of the Erie County Courthouse. John Williams is the person in charge and Marie is the person I spoke with. They have a listing of all of the cemeteries with veterans (they do not have a map), they handle the flagholder applications and they have the listings of all of the deceased veterans. The phone number is (814) 451-6265. By the way, this was the office that provided the figure to the Erie Times-News (I believe it was 92) concerning the number of cemeteries in Erie County containing veterans remains. This was in conjuction with the September 27, 2000, front page article in the Morning News. 1. [PAERIE] Queries to list - Please use dates
    2. William Klauk
    3. Hi List, I have noted recently many queries and person information posts that only include names. It would certainly help anyone who might be inclined to help and do lookups, if the actual or approximate birth and death dates are included in the message text. I personally can refer to my 1896 Nelson's, but don't routinely look through it for every name as it is not well indexed. Others have census copies and other type of data which if dates are included might cause them to at least glance at their sources and perhaps help in the query. However, when dates are not included there is no incentive to even try to do look ups as more than likely it is the wrong time frame and a wasted effort. 3. Hi List and Mike, I have added Summit Township Sites of Interest to my growing list of Zing albums at http://www.zing.com/album/pictures.html?id=4293425277 but have only a limited number of pictures. Other than some pictures of various 'welcome" signs, the 22 pictures currently loaded include St. Matthew RC Church and related on Townhall Road, the Central School (built 1939), the township admin building, the sewer authority building and the Waste Management landfill as viewed from Donation Road. 1. [PAERIE] Millcreek School Album on Zing - updated
    2. William Klauk
    3. I have added a large number of pictures (the total is now 103) to the Millcreek Schools - Past & Present at http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293463769 . I now have included pictures of Grandview, Vernondale, one lonely shot of the new Belle Valley (my battery went dead in the camera), McDowell, McDowell Intermediate, Westlake and the site of the Lakewood School (now a playground). I added several more shots of what was once the Parker School on Arbuckle Road, and several more of the Zuck School with the sun in a different part of the sky. I believe of the present schools, I am only missing the new Tracy, Chestnut Hill and JS Wilson and some more shots of Belle Valley. I think I have included shots of all the still standing one room schools. Bill Klauk Millcreek Township, Erie County, PA

    1. [PAERIE] McKean Township on Zing - updated
    2. William Klauk
    3. I have updated the McKean Township sites of interest at http://www.zing.com/album/pictures.html?id=4293586851 with the adding of 4 pictures of a home in the woods on Pinetree Road which looks remarkably like it could have been a school house. Long before the building on I-90, this road joined with the road now known as Buman Road. I have no knowledge of this building actually being a school, other than it looks similar to other turn of the century (1900) school houses in the county. 1. [PAERIE] Harborcreek Cemetery
    2. This is a correction. On October 8 I posted a message that said that "most of the bodies from the Harbor Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery were moved to Gospel Hill Cemetery in Harbor Creek Township." Dick Tefft says this is not correct. He says that all reburials took place in the South Harborcreek Methodist Cemetery. Let me quote him so the information isn't filtered through my interpretations: "The Harborcreek Presbyterian Cemetery had been abandoned and the people felt they wanted those bodies removed to someplace where the cemetery is cared for. This was in the 80's and at that time, Gospel Hill was abandoned and badly overgrown and there was not any authority who could give permission to bury there if they had wanted to... I had interviewed the lady in charge of the move and she told me where they were. I was at the cemetery and there is a bronze plaque commemorating the move. Gospel Hill was cleaned up a couple of years ago by the Harborcreek Historical Society and I was there. There had never been any mention of recent burials, in fact they assured me when they checked the stones against the readings from the 50's they saw no change."
