    1. [PAERIE] Lookups page
    2. William Klauk
    3. In between all of the other material that I will be working on for Mike, I would like to activate the Lookups page on the site. I know many of you have sent in your lists before, and some may have sent info to Mike, but I will have to go looking for it, and it may be out of date. So, if anyone has material or access to material pertaining to Erie County and are willing to do lookups on a strictly volunteer basis, or to perform other related services concerning Erie County (such as photographing gravestones, etc.), again on a strictly no fee voluntary basis, please email directly to me off the list - [email protected] - with the details of what you are willing to do and I will construct it together into the Lookups page. Please include your first and last name, e-mail address, what it is you will do, and any restrictions. You may include request for reimbursement of copy charges or other fees or costs involved, but this is supposed to be an essentially free lookup service, so any offers to do work for a charge above and beyond raw costs will not be posted. Mike and I both thank you. Bill Klauk Erie County, PA

    1. [PAERIE] New Military page on Web Site
    2. William Klauk
    3. Hi List, Check out the new Military page that has been added, and thanks to Rick Landers, 3 pages of World War 1 Erie co servicemen who died during that war. As indicated on those three pages, if someone on the list wishes to transcribe the names to a text file, then I can post that and it will be searchable. Unfortunately, the image could not be easily converted via OCR and I have other priorities at the moment. The page is fine with just the scanned image, but as most of you know, a search can't be done on an image. Anyone else with Erie County Military material that you would like to see posted, please provide information to me and I will see that it is posted. Bill Klauk Erie County PA Veteran (Vietnam Era)

Their address is: Pattee Library Pennsylvania State University University Park, Pennsylvania 16802 I could be wrong, but suspect the reference to Le Boeuf you found does not pertain to the Le Boeuf post office, but refers to the post office in Waterford which was located at (Fort) Le Boeuf. The Le Boeuf post office wasn't established until 1867, according to the 1884 History of Erie Co. Hope this helps some. Let us know if you find the letters. Good luck! 1. [PAERIE] HI!
    2. Mike
    3. HI Everyone! Sorry I have been out of touch recently. As you probably noticed, Bill has offered to help me out with the site. He is contributing his ideas for the site, so you will see some changes. My new job takes up much more time than my old one. Most nights I do not get home until 7 or 8 and sitting at the computer for 3 or 4 more hours is not usually on the list of things to do!! So, with Bill's help we will get the site back on track again. We have a ton of stuff to post! If you have anything that you would like posted on the site, you can send it to either me or Bill. I am going to try and get caught up with what y'all have sent me so far....I have many more chapters of the Bates book to post, and an incredible look up offer that I will post this weekend, plus another cemetery reading. Hope you are having fun getting ready for the holidays! I will be spending a week in Emporium (Cameron County) with my folks starting next Thursday...I am looking forward to that! I could get use to Mom feeding me 3 squares again! She has been busy baking all of my favorite Holiday goodies. LOL Have a great weekend! 1. [PAERIE] New Web pages on Erie County Genealogy site
    2. William Klauk
    3. Hi List, Please check the Whats New if you haven't already for several new pages on the Erie web site. First, several pictorial pages with the story and dedication of the Old Almshouse Cemetery was added which you can get to via the Cemetery Records page. Next, courtesy of Linda Emerson, a circa 1890 Emerson Family portrait page has been added which you can get to via Old Photos. Finally, township maps from the 1896 Nelson's History of Erie County are being added. Seven township maps have been added, along with a new Nelson Map Index page which will be one of two front doors to these maps. Eventually links will be listed from each township page to its appropriate map. Cosmetic changes and my autobiography were updated on the Millcreek Township page. 1. [PAERIE] Erie County Queries
    2. William Klauk
    3. As there has been some query posts to this mail list recently, I thought I would take the opportunity to remind all list members about the GENCONNECT query system available through the Erie County Genealogy Web page. This query system, and the associated Wills, Obituaries, Biographies and Deeds, allow anyone to post information which is then available on a global search basis. Anyone wishing to post a query may go directly to the Erie County (PA) query system by clicking here --> http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Erie or from the Erie County Genealogy home page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/ scroll down to Research Recourses and click on Queries (dark green underlined). When the resulting page appears, click on the underlined Post a Query at the end of the first text paragraph. This page is actually the old query system, but sends one to the new query system to 'post a query'. Unfortunately, I noted that there is still an opening into the old system and some 'new' (since Sept 1, 2000) queries have been posted to the old system. I am working with Mike Wennin to correct that hole and to 'archive' all old queries. I will be advising those who posted recently to the 'old' system that they should repost to the Rootsweb standardized GENCONNECT query system. Unfortunately, there is no utility available to convert 'old' queries to GENCONNECT, so the old system needs to still be available for one to do lookups. There is also a Surname and Researcher profile lists associated with the old system which will be discussed at some time in the future. Mike has asked me to coordinate any questions concerning the use of these systems, as he is working full time (and then some) and I remain 'retired', so anyone with questions or comments should direct them directly to me off list at [email protected] and I will address whatever your issue or question might be. Don't send me queries though, post them directly to the GENCONNECT Query System as outlined above. Bill Klauk Millcreek Township, Erie County, PA

    1. [PAERIE] Waterford - James Nichols
    2. E MacDonald
    3. Does anyone know about this family? All I have is an obit stating that Reatha Webb made her home with Mr. & Mrs. James Nichols in Waterford in 1878. Reatha was the youngest sister of my ancestor Samuel Webb who was raised by Joseph Newton & Elizabeth Jane Webb Buzza down in Kossuth, Clarion Co., PA. I do know that there was an Abel Nichols in the 1860 census in the Edenboro area listing a James age 19. If this is the same James then this Nichols family ties in with the Buzza family that Reatha's Aunt Elizabeth Jane Webb Buzza married into. They would have been from Cornwall Eng. Reatha's father was James Webb (my ancestor) and Elizabeth Jane Webb Buzza was his sister and they were from St. Cleer, Cornwall. Eng. Family inf. states that Reatha was raised by family relatives. In the 1860 census there is also Joseph Buzza who was an uncle of Elizabeth Jane's husband Joseph Newton Buzza. Richard Ellis also ties in somewhere in this family and he is in this census record also. Thank you. Betty Macdonald [email protected]
