    2. Hi list, Nelson's book can also be bought at the Erie County Historical Society at 417 State St. (where I got my copy). I believe I paid $60 for both volumes. You may want to call them for prices and/or shipping information if you are from out of town. The number is (814)454-1813. Chris Mcclelland

    3. Linda Emerson asked about a source for Erie County Histories. One source is the Erie Book Store at 137 East 13th Street 16503, (814) 480-5671 or 5674. This is the old Lovell Manufacturing Building that has been nicely renovated into office and living spaces. I bought my copy of Nelson's there. They tend to get the used books in and turned over fairly rapidly. I don't know what arrangements they might make for non-store purchases. An online source is http://www.addall.com/Used/ , when you get to this search engine type History of Erie County, Pennsylvania in the KEYWORD section and you will get a listing of about 30 or so titles. There is some included which are more modern, and you can do various keyword searches to do other titles. I did note that Bates, Nelson, Sanford, Miller and Reed were all listed as available. I have a copy of Sanford 1896 and although it tends to be less expensive, in my opinion it does not contain much, other than a lot of rambling stories. I am not familiar with her earlier edition but I think the later edition just added a supplement with rambling stories in no particular order. I understand Miller and Reed (I believe Reed was done about 1925) are also quite good and in multiple volumes although I have not had a chance to look through them, only to glance at volume one only of them in the Erie Book Store. We have a Bibliography section on the site that has not yet been developed. I will attempt to gather the names of the various histories and build a page for that site. If anyone has copies of any histories and would like to provide me a short review (I don't need Nelson as I have that), I would appreciate it and I will (unless asked not to) post the review to the Bibliography page. 3. Happy New Year to everyone. May all your brick walls come tumbling down in 2001! So far I have uploaded 135 of the 366 bios for the city of Erie from the Bates 1884 History of Erie Co. I have already transcribed all 366 and will be uploading the remainder within the next few days. Also, I am almost finished with the transcription of the 141 bios for Corry and will also be uploading them soon. Once these are done, then I will finish transcribing the bios for all the townships. I'm not sure how many there are for the townships, but the number is considerable. Although I have already transcribed many of the township bios, there are still many more to be done. Hopefully I will be able to finish this project within the next few months. I hope everyone enjoys reading and learning about the history of Erie Co. and its people as much as I have. 3. Hello List, I am writing again in an attempt to find out where or whom I could contact about the Wattsburg, Phillipsville, and/or Lowville areas. From the research I have done so far, I am finding that my REYNOLDS family was from this area and I am hoping that I can make a breakthrough soon. I have found back to my gg-grandparents Maurice (Morris) and Susanne (BOYD) REYNOLDS. I have had contact with a researcher from Susanne BOYD's family that has helped me to verify this connection but I have not been able to find Maurice's parents. I believe that his parents are Jabez and Melissa (WARNER) REYNOLDS but have not been able to locate either of these names. If anyone would able to direct me in the right direction or might have information on this family I would be very greatful! Kelly J. Raymond - NY [email protected]

    3. Jennifer, In looking around the Erie County (PA) Genealogy web site, I note several references to Keepville, which is a crossroads southwest of the borough of Albion in Conneaut Township. Please note the 1896 map at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/maps/conn1896map.htm and the modern day map at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/graphics/WestErieCoPA.jpg , plus the online history of Conneaut Township from the Bates book at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/bates/batesconneaut.htm . I also looked up Keepville in my 1896 copy of Nelson's history, but it essentially said the same thing. Our county cemetery listing shows two cemeteries that could be possibilities - I am not familiar with this part of the county but perhaps others are - the Keepville Cemetery and the Old Keep Burial Ground. I also would like to suggest that you post a query to the Erie County GenConnect query board at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Erie if you have not previously done so. The GenConnect system is becoming a standard globally in that anyone around the world doing a search on the surname, in this case KEEP, not just people in Erie County (or people looking in Erie Co), will see the query and perhaps respond. Queries that contain a lot of factual data but are not too long, and ones that are very specific with names and dates tend to gain the most attention. I have posted this reply also back to the mail list in case someone in the Albion area can provide better information about Keepville and the cemeteries there. Hope the above helps. 2. Joseph Schmitt
    3. Hi Listers, Having a day off, we determined to spend it, or some of it, productively at the Public Library. Our g-grandfather, John Schmitt, passed away in 1911 and his death cert. listed Bavaria as his birthplace. Today we looked for, and found, the newspaper obit of his brother George Schmitt who died in 1926. Not only did it give his place of birth as Rulzheim but it also noted that the service would be held at the home of his nephew (my grandad) also John Schmitt. As I am usually too ready to believe everything I read, the mention of the service made this bit of info bulletproof. The upshot of my little success was an afternoon firing up search engines and in the course of doing that I came across a host of Seelingers who came to Erie from Rulzheim. And the surname lists from that locale looked like they might have come from a local Erie phone book. It seems that Rulzheim packed people off to Erie like we send people to Casino Niagara! If anyone of German descent from Erie has not yet made that leap across the water, a look at this little town may be rewarding. BTW, the u in Rulzheim has two dots over it(umlaut?) and is sometimes followed by an e. Best wishes to all of you...Joe
