Thanks to Dee for the 1850 census entry. John Shepardson is the son of Seth. His wife was Eliza Upham, and his children you listed would be, according to our records: Joel, J.A. would be John Augustus Alfred is Alfred B. S.M. is Stephen Madison A.M. is Adelaide M. Electa and Roxann were born after 1850, and Franklin D. appears to be missing, but given the spelling problems of the census, I wouldn't be surprised if he missed a child or two. The Susan you found may be Susanna, daughter of Newell Shepardson and Sally Upham. Emeline may be the daughter of Daniel Franklin Shepardson and Alma Colt. I can't verify the last two, but I'm delighted with the rapid response you've all given me. Thanks so much! Bimmy and Carla told me where Frisbeetown was, and I may be able to get some more information about the cemetery there. Thanks to you all! Linda in Utah
Thanks to you, "trace97", for the guided tour of the censuses for Erie County! I will go and look up the 1820,and 30 Censuses and find which of the Seths is the older one, and which is the younger. I also appreciate the reference to the Revolutionary War veteran from Windham. I'm sure he's the same one, as Seth was born in 1762. Thanks for the lookups, and I'm not surprised at the spellings in the census, especially since this name has so many letters to get wrong! ;o). Linda in Utah

The following changes have occurred at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie on Feb 6, 2001: Uploaded 8 class pictures from 1927 to 1935 from Albion area as submitted by Betty Macdonald to a new Zing Album. Created a new Faces of Erie County feature page with the graduating class of 1935 from Albion HS. A news article has been transcribed (by me) and will be uploaded to this page later tonight. A second picture, submitted by Diana Fitzsimons with the Junior Class from the 1936-37 school year, also at Albion HS, complete with a list of names, has also been posted on the same "Faces" page. Right now, this page and the Zing album are only linked from the Faces of Erie Co page, although in the future will be linked from the new Schools page and probably also from the appropriate township pages (Conneaut and Elk Creek). Attn Linda in Utah: As Dee pointed out the census taker had a spelling lapse. 1850 US Census Index PA Erie Co LeBoruf page 062 lists SHEFEARSON, Seth. There appear to be several Seth SHEPARDSON. The original may have been the Rev War Vet listed in Windham Co VT.. NY Census has various listings for Seth SHEPARDSON and finally Erie Co PA lists a Seth 1820 Waterford page 191; 1830 SHEPARDTON waterford page 308; 1830 SHEPARDTON, Amity twp page 292 Dolores Davidson wrote: > Hi > In the 1850 census there should be a SETH? if he deid 1852 there is none in > Erie Co , but a badly spelly SHEPARDSON, JOHN, is there and Susan,
No this list IS NOT SET UP DIFFERENT! (Cheryl, I am NOT personally attacking you). First of all, Mike or I couldn't change it if we wanted to because we do not control this mail list. This mail list is "owned" by Jeff LaMarca who continues to be the administrator. Second, SOME mail lists are set to have replies go back to the mail list, but most of the ones I subscribe to do not. I subscribe to about 8 county/state mail lists and about ten surname lists, and only one county/state list (Ct-River-Valley) and one surname list (don't recall off hand which one) go back to the list. The three counties surrounding us (I didn't check Warren), and the other lists go only to the sender of the message, unless you hit the Reply All button. Several people on this list have mentioned that most lists they subscribe to DO reply to the list. Obviously we must subscribe to different sets of maillists. My experience with two very large lists (as a subscriber and observer) is that it doesn't matter which way the administrator has set the list to work, people need to LOOK at the address in the To box before hitting the send button. Multiple times I have seen people on the CRV list apologize for sending a private message to the list, and multiple times I have seen "Thank you", "Your Welcome", "Me too" and other types of messages that should not have gone to the list, but only to a specific individual. The only advantage in my mind to having a reply go back to the entire list is that everyone knows that a question has been answered. But far too many times it turns into a personal chat session that may or may not be of interest to everyone. On the other hand, Cheryl has pointed out that she has experienced just the opposite of having replied thinking that everyone on the list was getting a message, and not just an individual. Bottom line - you must look at your To line before you hit the send button. Most of the mailing lists to which I subscribe are set up so that when I click "reply" my post is automatically sent to the entire list, not just to the individual who wrote the message to which I am replying. I have no idea why this list is set up differently. Sometimes I have sent my messages to individuals instead of the group by accident. If I've done that you you... I'm sorry, it's hard for me to remember that this one list is different from all the others. Cheryl (Cheryl Trapp Boyd)
Linda was apparently having problems getting this message to the mail list, or to the query board. Can anyone help her out? Do not reply to me (you may reply to the maillist), I am only forwarding the message. Following changes were made to http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie of Monday (2/5/01) Added links to a Zing Album for Waterford Cemetery (mostly commemorative area at southwestern corner) to Cemetery and Current Photos page. Added links to a Zing Album for West Springfield Old Burying Ground (only 6 pictures) that I did back Dec 6th, but apparently never linked. Made some minor changes to the Storkel page on Faces of Erie County (one correction, one addition). Made some changes to the newly posted Mill Village Cemetery reading (one correction and multiple cosmetic fixes). Posted both the 1840 and 1850 Wattsburg only census extracts (index entries) as submitted by Betty Matteson Rhodes and linked to both the Census page and to the Venango Twp page. In the last several days have received a CD containing a huge image of a memorial scroll to a person on the Revenue Cutter Erie who drowned in 1847 and I will be making a feature page around this, I received a nice package of old Erie scene post cards that I will be scanning and adding to the appropriate album, and a series of multiple e-mails with a number of 19th century people photos that I will also be working into a feature page. First; however, I have some Albion school pictures from the 1930s and some Girard pictures which I have had some time, so I am going to try to clean up some of the older submissions first. I also took some nice dreary day pictures in Lakeside Cemetery on Monday, so want to create another Zing album for those. I desperately need some help!! I am seeking the parents of Harriet Ellen Cole b. 11 October 1835 - LDS records state NY, census records state PA. She married David Elisha Dodge 03 April 1855, son of David & Maria (Cole) Dodge, grandson of Seth & Celea (Sampson) Cole. At the time of the 1870 U.S. Census, David & Harriett were living in Erie Co., PA and also residing with them was a Seth Cole b. NY ca 1785. Seth could be Harriet's family, but he could also have been David's uncle on his mother Maria Cole Dodge's side of the family. ~gina thomas patterson~ http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html
February 4, 2001 Added cemetery reading for the Mill Village Cemetery as submitted by Barb Seyler. Many thanks go to Barb for updating and revising a list which goes back to 1953. Cosmetic changes to township pages are in progress, with about 1/3 of the township pages completed. Bill Klauk

Does anyone know of a Pickens County in Pennsylvania? I have an ancestor, Robert Emerson, who is listed on the 1830 federal census for this county but can't seem to find its location within the state. Thanks... Linda
Several of you have asked about my Mom. She had open heart surgery on Wednesday to replace a valve. The surgery was difficult and they had a hard time restarting her heart, but she is now doing fine. She is still on the ventilator, but they have her sitting up and standing. My Dad is concerned that he is not getting the registration in her eyes that he would like to see (more like a blank stare), but the doctors do not seem concerned. She cannot talk with the ventilator in of course. They are going to try and remove it tomorrow. The doctors are quite pleased with her recovery so far...they had reservations doing the operation given her age (79) and her weakened condition. But all of her vitals are AOK. My Dad says she looks like she got hit with a truck! :) She had the same operation on her other valve 10 years ago and recovered fine which I believe she will this time too...it will just take a little longer. She is tough. Thanks to those of you who kept her in your prayers and have asked about her. I really appreciate it.
