    1. [PAERIE] Fw: Steve Cummings - BARTON DNA RESULTS - Good News
    2. Donna Merrill
    3. Hi Steve and listers, The newest updates to the Barton Family DNA Project are in at the site below. Donna Merrill ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry Barton To: Donna Merrill Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 12:29 PM Subject: RE: DNA RESULTS - Good News Donna, I am surprised and sorry. I thought I had been in touch with you; I guess there's too much going on. Again, my apologies.. Ron's results were slow in coming out, and only recently came available. Go to our Family History page and scroll down to Modal Haplotype 6. http://www.bartonsite.org/family_history.html You'll see your line near the end of the MH6 families. If you click on the MH6 blue banner, you should see the DNA chart with all of the numbers. (However, B-3 and B-33 aren't there yet. I'll arrange to get them added. The results just came out last week and we've been busy.) Ron's results will look exactly like B-2, B-8, B-11, B-19, B-20, B-21. Ron, like 8 of the 10 DNA2 participants in the MH6 group, had no mutations. (All these men have exactly the same DNA results) The ones with any mutations at all in MH6 are B-4, B-33 and SC44.48. I don't know whether the 3 with mutations have any significance or not. It may take 20-30 results in the MH6 family to show us. Your search should focus very strongly on all of the known descendant lines of Roger Barton. However, it is possible that your link to a common ancestor with the "Roger" line goes back across the water to England. It could theoretically go all the way back to the 1100s when last names first began, but it is likely closer to the 1600s. (There is no way of knowing) Terry -----Original Message----- From: Donna Merrill [mailto:dmerrill3@mindspring.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 11:16 AM To: terry@bartonsite.org Subject: DNA RESULTS Hi Terry, I am beginning to worry about getting my results. I sent my brothers DNA in almost 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Is there any way to see what the status is at relative genetics??? Donna Merrill

    3. I searched online genealogies for him, and found several of that name, but all too old, too young, or in the wrong place or md. to the wrong person, etc. None of them were in PA. There are 13 Silas Browns in the 1790 census, all in New England and NY; 10 in 1800, same places and 15 in 1810, same again - none in PA in any of these censuses. (Sorry, I don't have access to 1820, 1830, etc.) Do you know where he was before Erie Co., PA? With a name like Brown, you need all the supporting info you can get <smile>. --- "Ila L. 3. Hello to the list, My new computer is almost set up - I have my email and old address book restored for everything prior to about New Year's Eve. Have last week plus worth of mail on three different computers so will slowly get that all together. Funny thing with import programs - they seem to work copying from one location, but not from another. It will still be a while before I can do any site updates, as I have to figure out Windows XP now and what FTP programs I can use to update the site. Have been a Windows 98er tried and true so XP is something new. Still have Win98 on one computer, but not my upload programs. Anyone who I had asked to hold off on sending me data, let the flood gates open, I still have 75Gigs free on my data hard drive (I got a small drive by today's standards). Theme for January will continue to be "Catch up". I invite all to visit the Website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie Bill Klauk Volunteer County Coordinator, Erie Co (PA) Genealogy USGenWeb/PAGenWeb Project

    1. [PAERIE] Census Index
    2. Hello list, Does anyone have access to the census index for the years 1900, 1910 and 1920? If so, and are willing I could use a lookup for a Bertram, Bert or Rum McClelland. He would be age 4 on the 1900 census. I have a subscription to the census records at ancestry.com unfortunately there is no index. Thanks in advance for any help. Jill

    2. Hello all,        I am new to the Erie Co. mailing list. I subscribed in order to try and help my nephew with his family history. I have been researching my Reese/Rudesill line in Venango Co., and Steven has expressed an interest in learning more of his McClelland family history. His grandfather lived in Venango County but I found this family was in Erie County in 1880 and 1930 so I decided this would be the place to ask for help. Below are the census records I found I am hoping someone on the list may have a connection to this family and would be willing to help me with information. Thanks for any help,        Jill 1880 US Census, Girard, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, Pg. 62D Mary MCClelland, w, f, 37, head, keeping house, widowed, PA PA, PA        Burt McClelland, w, m, 10, son, single, PA, PA, PA                                      Alex'r McClelland, w, m, 8, son, single, PA, PA, PA   Note: there is an age difference between these Burt's but I have found age discrepancies in my own family records. 3. The 1870 census of Girard, Erie Co. PA, shows three McClelland households, as follows: James 63, farmer, b. Pa; wife Mary 59, b. NY; Helen, 28, b. PA. Next door is Alexander 37, farmer, Mary E. 27, William B. 7 mos., and Cardiff 48, also a farmer, all b. PA; plus a farm laborer and a domestic servant in the household (differeent last names). On the preceding page, Wm. McClelland, 68, farmer, b. PA, Mercy A. 60, b. MA, plus a farm laborer and his wife (?) and child (?). (These last three had the same last name as each other, but not McClelland.) Hope this helps! Genie --- JLinde1954@aol.com wrote: __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 2. I would be interested in exchanging information with listmembers whose interests focus on the more remote parts of Erie Co., PA -- most specifically, Wayne Twp. I have ancestors who were located in the Wheelock area from the 1830's-1840's, and have had a difficult time finding out much about the area and its history. I am the -- 1. g-X-3-granddaughter of Jacob and Sophia MERTZ, who were known to have lived in Wheelock. 2. g-X-2-granddaughter of Harris George BOLSTER and his wife, Mary Catherine MERTZ (dau. of Jacob and Sophia MERTZ). 3. Sally, My ancestors were also in Wayne Twp. Daniel T. KEECH and Eliza F.L. KING, my great-great-Grandparents, lived in Wayne Twp near Eliza's family. Eliza is the daughter of Robert T. KING and Annis UNKNOWN. Robert T. King and Daniel Keech are listed in business together on the 1860 Wayne Twp. business directory, but I have been unable to locate Daniel and Eliza Keech on the 1860 Census. Robert T. KING had 11 children, and most of them lived in the Wayne Twp area. I will have to dig out my records for more detailed information. 1. [PAERIE] MCINTYRE/MCINTIRE, SHADDUCK/SHADDOCK
    2. Pamela Booth
    3. Hi, lists. I am trying to unravel a story my grandpa told me shortly before he died. It is turning into at least 3 stories as I find more info. He told a story of a baby girl whose mother died and whose maternal grandparents took in the small children while dad was resettling and then gave the boy back but not the little girl. He said her name was Nora. The father was Mark M. SHADDUCK/SHADDOCK; the mother who died, 2nd wife Ellen LONG. What I have found, through census and other records is that Ellen LONG Shadduck's baby girl was named Fannie E. (Actually Frances Evelyn and at 2yrs old she was living with her father and brothers in 1870 in Benton County, Iowa. At first I though grandpa just didn't remember right, but then I found the family with Nettie TOOLE SHADDUCK and more siblings but no Fannie. Then I find the death date for the first wife Sarah Elizabeth MCINTYRE/MCINTIRE 5 Nov 1856, age 20 yrs 3 months. There has never been any mention of her having any children. Then her marriage date came to light thanks to the kind and helpful Clinton County Genealogy Society people and others who have answered my queries even when I wasn't sure of what I was asking. Married 14 Feb 1856, 8 1/2 months before she died. I wondered, 'did she die in childbirth?' but no one seemed to know. No info on any child emerged. Then I found Sarah Elizabeth MCINTYRE with her parents in 1850 in Elk River Twp, Clinton County, Iowa. Then this summer I came upon a distant cousin who was reading off the backs of some old photos. Freda Shadduck, wife of Ira SHADDUCK; brother of Lee, Grant and Curtis; taken is Vail Crawford County, Iowa. This Ira I had never heard of until then, but I knew that the three brothers were 2nd wife Ellen LONG's children. I poured over Clinton County censuses but no luck with 1860,1870 or 1880 censuses. Then while I was tracking down someone else, I found James McIntyre with wife Mary, right ages, in the Springfield Twp, Erie County, Pa; 1870 Census. There was a James Chaddock of the right age living in the household and a Sarah McIntyre a year older supposedly. In 1880, Sarah the younger is listed as daughter and Ira Shaddock is out of the Household, living in the same twp and working for a neighbor. The trouble is, it is unlikely that they would have named another daughther Sarah with first Sarah not only living, but still in the household. I think that it is more likely that The younger Sarah McIntire is more likely Sarah McIntire Shaddock/Shadduck and that she was either born out of wedlockbefore the marriage or even more likely that she was actually a twin of James Ira Shaddock/Shadduck and She is the girl my grandpa said was talking about, although he didn't know that. I need to check a number of state censuses out and see if I can find them. Does anyone know of this family and if Sarah Elizabeth McIntire Shadduck had twins before she died? There may not be an obit, but I was wondering if Clinton County had one of those newsy community papers that reported in short illnesses, visits and such in 1856? I wonder it anyone knows of Sarah McIntire, abt 23 in 1880? Did she marry? Also There is a marriage listing for Elfriede Shaddock and & Wm H. Malone Marriage Records, Crawford County, Iowa. Index 1, Page 157. A cousin found that much info on a LDS film. Does anyone have access to the complete record? I do have the death record for Elizabeth Shaddock in Clinton County. Pamela

    2. This reply is to Steve, Regarding adoption records...my great grandfather was brought to Erie County in 1881 on an Orphan Train. I wanted to know about any possible adoption information. He was 12 at the time he came here, so we know some about his natural parents, but I wanted to know whether he was legally adopted or not. I was told at the Erie County Courthouse that the records were sealed. After 120 years who would really care about the adoption being unsealed? I could pay an attourney to petition the court to try to reopen the file. And then it might not be opened. Can you imagine what that would cost? I said forget it! I didn't want to know that badly. I'm not sure who they are "protecting" after all this time. Linda

Personally speaking, when my mother was killed in an auto accident, I was hard put to remember anything at all, including her name, my name, her date of birth, etc. My 11-yr old son had to prompt me. Fortunately the funeral director was a very patient man and I came back the next day better prepared. Otherwise, I think there would be many blank spaces or "unknown" entries! Sharon Bakersfield, CA

Also, the DC had his parents as unknown. Errors are made all the time. The only piece of information, they say, that is totally reliable is the date of death. (However I do have a family certificate that may be wrong on that too!) I have another one where the deceased's name is wrong. And the other extraneous info about the parents names and birthdates is only as good as the informant's knowledge. So who was the informant? How much could they know firsthand about the event? If they did not know the parents names, how much credibility do you give to the birth place? All this must be weighed with other evidence such as the census and other records. I would hazard a guess that he may have been born in PA to Irish parents who then moved to Ohio when he was a young boy. Therefore different informants (and that is what you have on census too) would have different views of his early life, according to what they heard or remembered. Further research would be in church records (if you know the denomination) or court records (land and probate). Did he inherit any land? You can tell this by tracing *all* land purchases. Tracing his life (and his siblings) backwards one step at a time might yield that the parents were living with him or one of his siblings at some point. Or they all sold land to one brother to settle an estate. I hope that your ancestors left a paper trail, and that you are able to find it.
