every vote counts VOTE anyway. God bless-- bye lois
Lois, This isn't the place for this and hopefully the list owner will bear with us just this once... I agree with you and I've voted for years but last year pretty much made me realize that the 'powers that be' run the city of St. Marys and your vote doesn't mean a thing, even if your candidate or resolution wins. Last year showed one of the best turn outs for voters in years. There was a vote for a review of the home rule charter here in St. Marys. It was pretty obvious that everyone was in favor as the vote was overwhelming in favor of the review. The 'powers that be' had to have the review but they also had the power to make sure only the things that they favored got changed. What I am speaking of is the fact that the mayor (or anyone) has no power over the local police force. The chief of police thinks he can run it and the city anyway he deems fit. He had even gone so far as to say that his job was too important to be decided by the people and that they should NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE HIM INTO OR OUT OF OFFICE. This was one of the things that was hoping to be changed in the home rule charter. It of course got pushed around and the people that tried to have it changed were ridiculed, belittled and harassed and no change was made. The review was just a big sham to please the voter. Now I ask you... why bother to vote??? If you wish to discuss this farther, I would be happy to do so, just do it personally, not through the list. --- END --- Dave B. > every vote counts VOTE anyway. > > God bless-- bye lois > > ==== PAELK Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe from the Elk Co., PA mailing list, send an e-mail to paelk-l-request@rootsweb.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the body of the e-mail.
