He was a central figure in the old Second Avenue gang that included Johnny Kerr, David and Donald Hoy, Alvin Haley, Jr. etc. Torrence always kidded about having a copy of the book "Tom Swift and His Electric Grandmother". In the late 1930's we had an interest in things electronic and were building vacuum tube radios. T.Q. was a neighborhood source of technical guidance information.
