Were there any compulsory forms, applications, or other sort of record that an immigrant woman to St Marys, Elks County would fill out say from 1875 to 1920? Yes I am searching for an elusive GGM who died in 1913 in St Marys. Thanks, Ed http://members.tripod.com/~Silvie/Schilling.html My out going e-mails are virus scanned.
Naturalization records for Elk County, PA are kept in the courthouse in the Prothonotary's office. These records have also been filmed by the LDS and are available on microfilm from them. (I don't know how you would order them though.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed Maul" <ed_maul@prodigy.net> To: <PAELK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2001 12:59 PM Subject: [PAELK] A Compulsory List for Immigrants > Were there any compulsory forms, applications, or other sort of record > that an immigrant woman to St Marys, Elks County would fill out > say from 1875 to 1920? > Yes I am searching for an elusive GGM who died in 1913 in St Marys. > Thanks, > Ed > > http://members.tripod.com/~Silvie/Schilling.html > > My out going e-mails are virus scanned. > > > > ==== PAELK Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe from the Elk Co., PA mailing list, send an e-mail to paelk-l-request@rootsweb.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the body of the e-mail. Unfortunately women did not go through a naturalization process in those years. They automatically gained citizenship through either their husbands or fathers. Passenger lists or immigration records ie Ellis Island may offer information you seek. 1903 was the first year that women were required to sign an Oath of Allegiance, and I believe Final Naturalizations were not required until almost 1910 for women.
