Does anyone know where in Fox Township that the area known as Keller's Crossing might be located? I am thinking that it's out toward Boone Mountain after you turn left at Kyler's Corners, but I'm not sure. I am trying to identify all of the schools that were in Fox Township at one time or another. I have seen mention of a school located at Keller's Crossing, and I know that some of the children that lived in Toby at the turn of the century went to the Keller's Crossing school, which leads me to believe that it is out toward Boone Mountain. Some of the surnames listed as being near this school were Curry, Moyer, Pontious, Shriver, Brocious, Bennett, Dean, and of course, Keller.

There are two ways to look at the list archives. One is the interactive search located at http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Type PAELK into the the Name of List field and then you can search on a keyword for the years that it has been up and operating. I vote for this addition to our list. It would be helpful to know when events are taking place, class reunions, family events, etc. Incidentally, I visited the Elk Co. Historical Society while in PA this Summer. I was very impressed with the help the ladies gave me and others researching families in Elk Co.They were very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to look for information. Thanks for their help. Peg
I sent this to the list yesterday, but it never made it, so here it is again: I have absolutely no problem with that (posting stuff from the local paper to the list) at all, provided that things don't meander into off topic subjects (like hunting, etc.). In fact, I think it's a great idea. I have often been tempted to do this myself, but I don't get any of the Elk County newspapers. (I get the Daily Press on a "when I get down there" basis from my grandmother.) There are enough people on this list that a lively discussion should be forthcoming, and everyone should feel free to post their queries at any time. We have alot of people subscribing, but no one is making that initial post to the list about what they are looking for. Please don't just put "ROLL CALL" in the subject line of the e-mail though-- be specific about the surnames you are looking for in the subject line so that it might catch the eye of others working on that same family. Good luck to all! Sherry
Elk County List, O-K, since I didn't get any hate mail or anyone requesting that I stick strictly to genealogy on the list I'm going to assume that it is all right. I did receive several encouraging messages to go ahead that it sounded like a good idea along with a few suggestions. Depending on how busy I am and the amount of "Notes of interest" in the paper I will try to send something a couple times a week just to give the out of towner's an idea of what is going on back here in the sticks. I'll refrain from using acronyms or things that only an Elk County kid would understand as suggested. Of course if I don't have a clue as to what they are referring to as in today's class reunion, I'll just leave it as it reads in the paper. Not much in the Notes today but.... --Notes of interest from The Daily Press, Tues. Aug. 21, 2001-- Obit.: Lester L. DUSH, Jr. (73) died at the home of his son on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001 in Ridgway. Born December 31, 1927 in Ridgway, son of Lester & Anna Hadden DUSH. On June 21, 1947, he married Evelyn GARDNER, who survives. CHS (?) class of '60 will meet at 1pm Friday, Aug. 24, at the lower end of the municipal parking lot to car pool for lunch in Emporium. -------END-------- Dave B.
Good evening! As far as I am concerned, I think this is a good idea. Not only will it help keep the list alive, it could be worthwhile to those of us who are at a distance from Elk County and are interested in local events, past or present. Tim in CA "D. Hello everyone, Since there isn't a lot of traffic on this list, I'd like to ask everyone (especially the list owner) if you would mind if I post some "Notes of interest" from the local paper. They don't actually pertain directly to genealogy but they do in a round about way. I would post things like family & class reunion information, who died, who's getting married, birthdays, anniversary's, etc.. I'd only post it when I remembered to do so though. ;-) Example... The HUFF reunion will be held at the home of Marlene (Huff) Long and George Long in Weedville on August 11. Mr. & Mrs. Percy Buttery of Hall Ave. are celebrating their 53rd. wedding anniversary today. SMAHS class of 1977 will hold a class reunion meeting on Tuesday, August 7 at 8pm at Genevro's. Class of '57 from Central High is holding their August "gathering" at Scottish Heights in Brockport. Call Helene at 834-3698 before Weds., August 8 for reservations. etc..... etc.... ------------ Dave Bobenrieth
