    2. Dave --- I entered the data exactly as I received it from the Historical Society in St. Marys. I can't answer Dave's questions as I have no knowledge of the Kreckel family other than thru the Heiberger marriage. Don't know who the Margaret who died in 1869 at age 41 was or who the Joseph who married Josephine Klaiber was. Only question I could answer was already answered --- Consumption is TB. Gus

    3. Gus, I agree with most of your info but have a few questions... Who is the Margaret Kreckel that was buried 9 June 1869? I thought this would be Margaret Fleischman since the age was with what I had. If she died in 1894 then she would have been born around 1812. Her last child was born in 1866, she would have been 54, I suppose. I have no other Margaret Kreckel though so who was the one in 1869? Can't place Joseph that is married to Josephine Klaiber, how does he fit in? Who are his parents? 1. [PAELK] Kreckel, Kregel, Kriegel 1st and 2nd Generations
    2. Linda
    3. For Gus, Dave B. and Ginnie and Peggy, I have been visiting grandchildren in North Pole, Alaska for the last month and just got home this week. Checking my e-mail, I noticed some interest on the list about Phillip and Margaret Kreckel. Phillip and Margaret Fleischman are my g.g. grandparents. Their son, William is my g. grand grandfather. Williams's daughter, Mercedes Kreckel is my grandmother. I have information (I believe through the St. Marys Historical Society, provided by a friend from the list searching for the Lechner connection) that give Phillip's parents as Philip and Susanna Gross Kreckel. I found both Phillip's listed in the 1860 Federal Census (Elk Co.) at ancestry.com. First, I will let you know that I have found the spelling of the last name on many different documents as Kregel, Kreckel, Kreckle, Krickel, Kriegel and Crakel and that the census takers sometimes spelled what they heard. 1860 Federal Census, PA, Elk Co. Benzinger Twp. Pg. 122/123 Phillip Krakel...age 38...day labor...b. Nassau (Germany) Margaret 31 b. Bavaria (Germany) John 11 b. PA Christ 10 Elizabeth Margaret 7 Catherine 4 Magdalene 2 Elizabeth is listed in the census as Elizabeth but was known as Margaret. The Catherine listed is the Catherine that married Joseph Lechner. I also found who I believe are Philip's parents in the 1860 census. 1860 Federal Census, PA, Elk Co. Benzinger Twp., Pg 127 John Krakel............age 38.....b. Nassau, Germany Cunigunda 27 b. Nassau, Germany Ambrose 11 b. PA Eliza 9 Mary 5 Catherine 1 Philip 60 b. Nassau, Germany Margaret 58 b. Nassau, Germany The Margaret married to Philip, I am guessing would be the Susanna I referred to...could be she is Margaret Susanna or Susanna Margaret but the dates and places of birth match so I am fairly certain this is Philip I and Phillip 11. The first Philip had these children: Phillip 1822 John 1824 Catherine 1838. This Catherine married Joseph Heiberger I am aware that both John and Phillip are listed as 38 but also know that you can get different ages on the census reports....I try to take the census info plus other into...death certs, church records, obits and what else I can get my hands on and then use common sense to make connections. I apologize for such a long message but thought I would share my info with all those who posed for the Kreckel info. Hope this information helps someone out there! Gus, you mentioned that you had gotten some death records from the the St. Marys Church Death Records....would you share them with me. You can e-mail me privately, if you wish. 3. Lois, This isn't the place for this and hopefully the list owner will bear with us just this once... I agree with you and I've voted for years but last year pretty much made me realize that the 'powers that be' run the city of St. Marys and your vote doesn't mean a thing, even if your candidate or resolution wins. Last year showed one of the best turn outs for voters in years. There was a vote for a review of the home rule charter here in St. Marys. It was pretty obvious that everyone was in favor as the vote was overwhelming in favor of the review. The 'powers that be' had to have the review but they also had the power to make sure only the things that they favored got changed. What I am speaking of is the fact that the mayor (or anyone) has no power over the local police force. The chief of police thinks he can run it and the city anyway he deems fit. He had even gone so far as to say that his job was too important to be decided by the people and that they should NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE HIM INTO OR OUT OF OFFICE. This was one of the things that was hoping to be changed in the home rule charter. It of course got pushed around and the people that tried to have it changed were ridiculed, belittled and harassed and no change was made. The review was just a big sham to please the voter. Now I ask you... why bother to vote??? If you wish to discuss this farther, I would be happy to do so, just do it personally, not through the list. --- END --- Dave B. > every vote counts VOTE anyway. > > God bless-- bye lois > > ==== PAELK Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe from the Elk Co., PA mailing list, send an e-mail to paelk-l-request@rootsweb.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the body of the e-mail.
