    3. Ginny, Yes, they are understaffed but if your willing to wait I'm sure they can fill in more blanks for you. I'm also pretty sure they could find information in the 1895 range if that was the last known date you have. They have computerized quite a bit in the last couple of years so might already have some of the information on hand that you are looking for. Try writing another letter or giving them a call. They do charge for the look up service. It should be noted that back that far the obituary did not contain the information that one does today. Back then it might only give the name and where he was buried. Dave > Thanks. 3. I would really appreciate some help from someone having access to the following book: HISTORY of ELK COUNTY . It was published by the ELK CO. HISTORICAL SOCIETY in 1982 In this book there is apparently a history of the establishment of the county poorhouse. I would like to be able to post it to my website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses)at http://www.poorhousestory.com on the PENNSYLVANIA page at http://www.poorhousestory.com/poorhouses_in_pennsylvania.htm If someone could scan it and send it to me via e-mail attachment, that would be great! Otherwise, if you could photocopy it and send it to me via snail mail ... I could scan it myself. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    2. Ginny - f >From 1893 - 1906, Elk County births and deaths were supposed to be filed at the courthouse. These Elk County records were microfilmed by the LDS church, and the microfilms can be rented through any Family History Center, if you have access to one. If you are checking births, don't forget to also check the Delayed Birth Certificates. Sandy

    3. Thanks. I went thru the historical soc. about 6-8 years ago and they were so helpful but they were understaffed and I hate to bother them. I have alot of fill in the blanks and am not sure they have that information since they had sent me so much. I would gladly send them $6.00 , you are right, it is cheap. I cannot get there on those dates and times, I drive school bus and only have Tues available in between runs, which is 9 am and 2 pm. Plus, it is a 2 hr drive, one way. That stinks!! I have been there twice to Johnsonburg driving track team there on a Sat. Had a family member meet me and took around, but there wasn't enough time. I love the area!!! 3. Hello Sharol, these are the German 'Umlauts'. ä -> ae ö -> oe ü -> ue ß -> ss The same for the capital letters. You should have this umlauts in your fontset, but you have to access them via the special characters function of word or you have to use the code-value (ALT-nnn). See the message of Paula. Hope this helps. 1. [PAELK] St. Marys Photographs and Photographers
    2. M. and A. Andersson
    3. Recently I had the fortune to be given an old family album containing mostly tintypes and cabinet cards. Unfortunately, the family member who passed the album on to me had no idea who most of the people were in the pictures. The album originally belonged to my third great grandparents who spent some time in PA before moving to NB, Canada. I know very little about them. Question: After carefully removing some of the cabinet cards, I noticed that a few had photographers' marks on them which pointed to St. Marys. The photographers were J. B. BERGSTRESSER and W. R. FINCH. Does anyone know about these photographers and if they kept records? Could anyone offer suggestions to how I might better identify these unknown individuals in the photographs? I would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts. Sincerely, Angela DeLong-Andersson Canada
